I didn't see a thread so I decided to make one.
Cast
-Josh Radner (Ted)
-Jason Segel (Marshall)
-Cobie Smulders (Robin)
-NPH Neil Patrick Harris (Barney)
-Alyson Hannigan (Lily)
Narrator:Bob Saget
I wanted to see who else watched this show. And if so, what were your favorite episodes/parts?
Mine was when Barney (NPH) made a bracket of every girl he slept with into a March Madness bracket to find out which girl was ratting him out to other girls. _________________

I just started watching this series. I'm on Episode 19 of Season 1. It's pretty funny and really watchable. Yes, I like to watch all shows in order. _________________ Top 50 Franchise Cornerstones (2012) - COMPLETED! |

I've been watching from the beginning and I love the show.
My favorite character is of course Barney (whatever happened to "suit up", he doesn't say it anymore)
There isn't one episode that really sticks out to me, but the whole thing with the goat has me hooked. I have to know what that was all about. _________________

Easily my favorite show on TV. Look forward to it every Monday when I get home from school. Barney and Marshall are my personal favorite characters. But I like the whole cast in general, they all blend well together and have great chemistry. As far as favorite episode goes, I'd have to say the Naked Man ranks up there with the best of them, but it is really hard to just select one. _________________

How I Met Your Mother used to be a great SHOW. Now it's an occasionally funny sitcom.
Seasons 1 and 2 balanced comedy and drama so well and all the laughs were in touch...real. Seasons 3 and 4 on the other hand, have decided to stop really pursuing the story and focus more on cheap laughs.
For instance, in this upcoming episode, Marshall coaches a basketball team that has to play a teen wolf who can do ridiculous flips when dunking.
Is that real? Part of what made HIMYM so fantastic was that these laughs were things that put you in a real situation. You knew these characters and felt close to them.
This now is cheap, unrealistic laughs. _________________

Having grown up in the 80's and seeing Teen Wolf over 30 times I think I'm going to love that episode.
I'm laughing just thinking about it _________________

It isn't anymore. |
I agree that a "Teen Wolf" is a little over the top and I can't picture Bob Sagat narrating a story like that very well but every show has a few episodes now and then that stray off the beaten path. I watch the show for the laughs more so that I do for the story of how Ted finds his wife. I'll enjoy the laughs now because I know it's gonna get sappy when I get to the episodes that reveal his future wife and their relationship. _________________

But they've had more and more over the top episodes as time has passed since Season 2's finale.
And while most don't watch it for the story, the thing that made it great TV and not just subjectively funny, is that they were able to push along an engaging story and get big laughs, usually which tied in with the story and helped move it along. It was crisp, tight television.
For 2 seasons. It's no longer that. And while I still chuckle, it frustrates me that the show did such a 180. _________________
