|

|
I did not see a thread like this on here already, so I'm making it now.
We finished our draft by selecting 5 skaters, all of whom are forwards.
3 of them are RWs, 1 is a Center, and the other is a LW, while 4 of the 5 have right handed shots.
New GM Joe Nieuwendyk made it a point to get an influx of right handers, because last season the pro team had a major shortage of them.
Here are the picks we made
1st Round - Scott Glennie
2nd Round - Alex Chiasson
3rd Round - Reilly Smith
5th Round - Tomas Vincour
6th Round - Curtis McKenzie
http://www.nhl.com/ice/draftsearch.htm?year=2009&t=DAL
If you are wondering, the first 4 guys are the ones that play right-handed.
I'm excited about Glennie, he seems like a good prospect that has already been compared to Ales Hemsky, Jeff Carter, and even HOFer Mike Gartner! _________________

I like Glennie a lot. I think he'll be a David Backes type of player once he gets into the league. _________________

I've heard that comparison as well
I just want him to gradually fill out his frame and polish out his game _________________

here's a good article on Jonas Gustavsson and his upcoming decision on where he will sign.

It says that Dallas is a very good fit and could be better than Toronto
If the Stars are able to get this guy, I'm ecstatic! _________________

thank you
I've been hearing almost nothing but good things
the only knock on him that I have really heard is his size, which is something he'll definitely work on. _________________

gotta love Mike Heika
I hope we go after boynton, he seems like a type of d-man that we need, especially since he has a nice right handed shot (something we lack).
I hope we keep Morrison tho, he's still a decent scoring option and fit in well with the team during his short stay last season. it helps that his brother-in-law works for the team too _________________

Gustavsson's decision and the fate of Zubov are the significant factors for us this offseason.
Dallas is definitely one of his top two choices, and I do not know of too many people willing to take a risk with Zubov (physically and financially). Let's hope his friend Joe offers him the right deal tho...he'd be a tough loss. _________________

thank you sir.
yahoo sports was also fans of the move, and gave us a decent grade on our offseason thus far.
| Quote: | | Dallas Stars: Whatever Jere Lehtinen(notes) has left in the tank, the Stars get it for one year as a deep discount ($1.5 million, down from $4.1 million last season). Defenseman Karlis Skrastins(notes) was a solid defensive defenseman for the Panthers last year, and two years at $1.375 million isn't bad. As of Day 3 of the Frenzy, the Stars were still waiting on Sergei Zubov(notes) and whether or not they can sign Swedish goalie Jonas "THE MONSTER" Gustavsson to eventually replace Marty Turco's(notes) five-hole. GRADE: B- |

if the team is healthy, I really like our chances to contend. Remember that this is a team that is one year removed from a successful run to the West Finals.
I would like guys like Jamie Benn and Ivan Vishnevski to make the jump to the NHL roster. _________________
