there are plenty of players in the NBA that come off the bench that make 'starter' money, dude.
we're talking about a team who gave Rashard Lewis a six year, $118M contract..
..the same team who just signed Brandon Bass (who will likely come off the bench, a la Gortat) to a four year, $18M deal.
Ronny Turiaf makes $4M+/per year to come off the bench for the Warriors.
Nazr Mohammed makes $6M+/per year to come off the bench for the Bobcats.
Jeff Foster makes $6M+/per year to come off the bench for the Pacers.
Dan Gadzuric makes $6M+/per year to come off the bench for the Bucks.
Darko Milicic will make $7M+ this season with the Knicks.
Jerome James will take home $6M+ this season with the Bulls.
big men have always had a premium on them in the NBA, dude, where the hell have you been? LOL
Gortat is better than everyone listed above with exception to Turiaf, probably.
when you have a franchise center, it's best to team him with another capable big man who can rebound & defend. hence why you saw the Warriors throw the kind of money at Turiaf they did to backup Biedrins and the Bobcats to Nazr to backup Okafor.
thanks for talking down to me though while insinuating backup big men don't get paid big $$$ in the NBA, despite the fact that's wrong.

6 teams? How convincing. 
Too bad Jerome James is taking home 6M from the Bulls because of that contract he signed in 2004-2005; when IIRC was a projected starter and like Darko got hurt. Darko started the year he made 7M+ but got benched due to poor play. They didn't pay him that much money just to ride the bench. With Foster, he's getting more minutes in the mid 20's compared to Gortat's 12. In 2005-2006 after starting on San Antonio's championship team Mohammed signs with Detroit to take onto the same role; starting more games in DET than he did with the Spurs. In 2005 when Dan Gazuric started ALL 81 games he got that 6M+/per year resigning.
Turiaf is the only recent example that is somewhat valid for your argument. Needless to say 4M is much, much more reasonable for a back-up compared to Gortat's contract which doubles his amount. Your point about the Bobcats is moot considering they TRADED for him.
Big men have always been a premium? I never said it wasn't, but thanks for putting words in my mouth. I'm not sure which is more pathetic. The fact you think my response was pathetic or the fact your insinuating that your an internet gangster. I'll take the latter.

How bout Etan Thomas? I think he's going to make like 8 or 9 mil this year, he would have made 6 mil but since he got traded I think he gets paid more. How bout mike james, he's going to get paid like 6-7 mil to be not even play for the wizards most likely!

your whole basis for believing the Magic will trade Gortat was that he's getting paid too much to be coming off the bench, hence why I provided examples of other centers in the NBA who get paid relatively close to the same money and have similar roles or even smaller ones (as in the case of Gadzuric & Jerome James).
teams that are competing to win a title put money out, they don't start penny pinching, that's common sense... but evidently that's not one of your strong suits, either.
look at the Cavs re-signing Varejao for the money they just did, for ANOTHER recent example.
get a clue, dude, Gortat isn't going anywhere.. at least until after another title run.
if your argument had any merit or legs to stand on, you wouldn't be resorting to ad hominem, end of story.

I guess being a gangster, you don't compact the intelligence necessary to understand the completely different circumstance each of those guys in. Gadzuric started all 81 games the year he got his bid. James was the projected starter for the Knicks but showed up out of shape and was steady injured. Your point is moot and will forever remain be. He gets paid by the Bobcats because of that contract he agreed with Detroit after being a starter several years ago.
Your examples did no good considering the situations. Lets see your recent example, Anderson Varejao averages 28 mins compared to Gortat's 12. Logically, I guess it must be hard for an internet gangster. |

I honestly don't think Gorat is going anywhere soon. They need him if they want to compete with Shaq, Varejao and Z...or Sheed, Garnett, and Perkins

Yeah I really doubt Gortat gets traded until before the season but I would not be shocked to see him traded at the deadline. Right now we really need Gortat to come off the bench.
