A friend of mine got me involved in a baseball keeper league a couple of years ago because someone dropped out/was a bum manager. It's an interesting setup where you can keep 4 guys for a max of 12 years (so 3 years per player or 5, 2, 3, 1 etc). I'm having quite the issue with deciding on who to keep this year. Also the settings are pretty standard R/HR/RBI/SB/AVG/OPS for hitters and W/SV/K/ERA/WHIP/and K/BB for pitchers.
Brandon Belt
Coco Crisp
Luis Cruz
Ian Desmond
Danny Espinosa
Carlos Gomez
Curtis Granderson
Brett Lawrie
Starling Marte
Ben Revere
Anthony Rizzo
Wilin Rosario
Marco Scutaro
Alfonso Soriano
Nick Swisher
Mark Teixeira
Will Venable
Pitching
Matt Cain
R.A. Dickey
Hiroki Kuroda
Matt Moore
Brandon Morrow
Stephen Strasburg
That's my roster. I left out closers because well, I'm not keeping a closer. I traded for Cain mid-season and was thinking of going Cain, Dickey, Strasburg, Granderson. Then the doubt comes in. What kind of numbers would Desmond have put up if he played a full season? Can he do it again or even improve on it? If so he could be a 30/30 player at SS (but I'm expecting more 20/20-25/25). Will Granderson keep sliding in BA/SB? With pitching easier to come by would it be a better play to not keep Dickey (since he's moving to the AL east) and keep Desmond instead? Or do you think there's a better set to be keeping? Lowrie/Cain/Stras/Desmond? _________________

| I think Lawrie and Strasburg should be kept without question. Both are just too damn good. Beyond that you are in a tough spot. And honestly I don't have a good answer. I think I would wait and see what other players are kept, and the depth left at each position. |

Strasburg
Lowrie
Cain
And the last is tough. Granderson or Dickey are older so you likely won't keep them as long and you likely will want to keep Strasburg the longest. If you want to keep it even and stay young I would keep Rosario or Desmond. _________________

I don't think keeping Granderson is such an easy choice. Would you keep Adam Dunn? Granderson had 15 more runs, a few more RBI, a .028 point BA difference and .010 OPS difference. _________________

Well thanks for the feedback I did get The only guy I can't keep is Teix...although I don't want to so no worries there.
I think the 40 HR's that Granderson puts up (or even if it's 30-35) is tough to replace and I think I'm probably going to end up keeping:
Strasburg
Cain
Dickey
Granderson
Which is what I was thinking of keeping in the first place. I could be swapping out Dickey for Desmond...hm. Tough decisions _________________

Don't question my choice of keeping Granderson and then agree that he would be hard to replace .

I question it because I question it in my head. Then I tell myself why it'd be hard to not keep him...and I go back and forth _________________

Stras
Cain
Dickey
Desmond
I would seriously consider keeping Lawrie. _________________

So you don't think ANY of the other players will be any good in 2013? _________________

Basically no. Not really. I wouldn't want any of those players on my team next year. Except Matt Cain will be a stud. But I wouldn't keep 2 pitchers and Strasburg is going to be better than Cain. Strasburg may be the best pitcher in baseball starting this year and continuing for the next 5 or so at least. _________________

Thought I could just piggy back on this thread.
I get to keep 4. My 3 so far are Braun, Hamels and Kershaw.
I kept Teixeira last year but he seemed lost last year. My 4th and final would come down to:
Molina
Teixeira
Butler
Jeter
Middlebrooks
Peavy
Rodney
Leaning towards Butler but heavily considering Middlebrooks. Standard league, btw. No rules or restrictions on the keepers, we just get to keep 4 on our roster. _________________

Of you are in a league with a DH spot keep butler. If not Middlebrooks. Or maybe both and not keep Hamels since I'm not a fan of keeping two pitchers. _________________
