What? You think Red Bull would have sent Vettel in if Hamilton had done a 3.4 pitstop instead of a 4.4.
They had their gameplan. |
Red Bull waited until Vettel's lap times started shooting up before pitting him. They had had the pit stop in hand over Hamilton for several laps, but were trying to jump Alonso and Rosberg too.
I was a bit surprised that Red Bull didn't tell Webber to back up Rosberg and Alonso. He could have gone quite a bit slower and the cars behind him still wouldn't have been able to pass. _________________

IIRC Webber did kinda back up Rosberg and Alonso.
Vettel finished 1 second behind Webber, how much more do you think he could back them up without Vettel jumping him? _________________

The thing is that team orders are allowed now. There's nothing in the rule book that would have prevented Red Bull ordering Webber to back off enough to allow Vettel to come out in the lead, then ordering the drivers to swap positions because Webber had earned the victory.
Then again maybe they just didn't want to go there. We don't know what's written into the drivers' contracts.

^ Good luck swapping the lead back from Vettel to Webber with Rosberg and Alonso all over your back. _________________

It's also a case where this is Monaco, where it's easy to make a mistake and throw away an easy win. If you're Red Bull why tempt fate when one of your drivers has a comfortable lead? _________________

Yeah. That was Derek Daly's son. Good thing he's OK. |
Outrageous driving by the other car.
Disappointed today the Lotus' I thought would be strong and Kimi is lightening around Monaco

To be honest when I first saw it, it looked like that guy trying to pass, could have kept going up the inside and got past, but came back to (the drivers) right late, while the red car did not move much at all.
I am not that well versed however and could be missing a whole lot of stuff. I understand exactly what the commentator is saying, but I don't think he went both directions.
He was trying to make the car as big as possible to hold on without a rear wing. |
I still think he made 2 moves.
When did his wing come off? Why wasn't he orange and black flagged? |
Same two cars had a bit of a collision earlier in the race when Daly tried to get past. He lost his wing about 2 laps prior. He was, he ignored it.
The guy without the wing was excluded from the results post race.

Perez will end up on one of the top teams next year.
Maybe Hamilton goes to Mercedes and Perez replaces Webber at Red Bull? |
It looks like I wasn't too far off.
Webber -> Ferrari
Hamilton -> Mercedes

At least that's the current buzz (or at least one of the possibilities). _________________

I think some F1 tracks should become time attacks. At least ones like Monaco where you can't really pass. Should be a contest for the fastest lap. Qualifying has become more entertaining than the actual races. _________________

Monaco's only redeeming feature is the fact that it is Monaco. _________________
