I've been involved with a few music threads in my time on FF. Lately I've been finding there's a genre I keep coming back to: Pop punk. Yes, blink-182 obviously. But there's plenty of other great bands and great diversity in the genre. In some ways it has become a blanket term. For example, you have half-metal bands (ex A Day To Remember) and boy bands (5 Seconds of Summer) being lumped in to the same category. There are plenty of good bands from the genre with varying styles from a bunch of different backgrounds. So, yankee0724 and I decided to start a thread and introduce them to the (FF) masses. There may be guest posters introducing some as well.

Here are some of the most quintessential examples of the genre that I could think of:
blink-182 - What's My Age Again
New Found Glory - My Friends Over You
Sum 41 - Fat Lip
Green Day - When I Come Around
Taking Back Sunday - Cute Without the E

Modern pop punk is a little different, but at the core of it, this is where a lot of it started out. More music/bands to be posted.

Randomly started listening to The Hives last week, got through their first couple albums. They get repetitive but they are good at what they do

Is Rise Against pop punk now? I never considered them to be in that genre, before, but I haven't heard their newest stuff.

It's debatable, but I'd classify them as such simply for them fitting into the more mainstreamy punk.

I wouldn't call Rise Against pop-punk, but like s&b said, its become such a blanket term. I'll be posting some bands I'd put outside the genre, so its all gravy.

But whoever posted linkin park should leave this thread and never come back. Only half joking.

Nah son. Meteora and Hybrid theory were where it's at. Not a fan of the new age so much though, lyrics feel basic as hell and they all sound like they belong at the end of a Transformers movie.

Don't harbor a strong dislike for Linkin Park. Numb/Encore with JayZ is great. They're definitely not a pop-punk band though.

I like all the bands listed in the thread so far. Need to mention Motion City Soundtrack though..

The Future Freaks Me Out

I really like When You're Around too but forum rules mean I can't post that link.
