Hull is staying now. Good choice.

Lynch is staying per his twitter.

Up to this point, none of the transfers are team ending. Redd was probably leaving after this year, Haplea fell to 3rd string in the spring, Nowicki wasn't in the 2 deep on the depth chart, and Buckley was a walk-on who transferred with hopes of getting a schollie. Fortt's loss hurts LB depth and there is a fall off from Fera to I can't believe it's not Butterworth, but the team doesn't look that different.

If I'm following this correctly, once the 2013 season starts, players won't be able to transfer without sitting a year. If PSU can hold onto most of the young players and keep a good core group of 2012 recruits until then, things should be okay for the next few years.

I'm hoping some of you fine gentleman can tell me more about Justin Brown. He's apparently decided to transfer to Oklahoma, and there's a good chance he'll play a LOT of meaningful snaps this year.

Honestly he is the definition of average. He has great size. But he will disappear for loong stretches and will drop some of the easiest passes you will ever see. At the same token, every now and then he will make a play that makes you say "wow!"
In summary: With Stills, and the potential of the young WRs on your team, all things equal he is honestly at best your 3rd WR, most likely 4th.
However the suspensions play out with those 2 WRs (I don't really know much about it) he may have to be your #2. I imagine he will do better with a QB like Jones but don't expect a game changer and in all honesty just based on what I hear about some of your young WRs, he might not even be a factor come the end of the year should he get passed over on the depth chart.

I didn't see this coming. 6'3 210. Good WR. I knew him in passing in HS. totally surprised that he would transfer. I think he is trying to go to a team so he can looked at more by Pro scouts. Never fully reached his full potential in our O but then again we aren't the best passing O

Look for him to EXPLODE in your O. good route runner, good hands, great character kid. Your getting a good player. Totally surprised JB would do this but I think this a move for him

Good, not great WR who's underwhelmed so far. He's good decent, not great speed, decent hands (He drops some really easy passes), despite being 6'3, 209 he isn't that big.

That being said, sometimes he gets hot, and when he does, it's impressive. Some fans don't think he's that great at breaking tackles and making guys miss. PSU rarely attacked the middle of the field under the previous regime, but he was always pretty good, not great, at catching passes in traffic.

Ultimately, I'd say he'll be a good #3 option.

Thought Fuller was part of that group of recruits who said they were sticking around.

I know a friend of Akeel Lynch who maintains that he is looking forward to doing well at Penn State next year. I think for now we need not worry about him leaving. He's very similar to Silas Redd, and holds similar upside as well.

Justin Brown, to me, has all the makeup and optics of a number one receiver, but inconsistencies and occasionally looking overwhelmed -- a quality adjective for Brown which Ice already noted previously -- has held him back. In a spread offense that features multiple targets out wide and Landry Jones under center, he should flourish a little. I don't see a potential top 3 round pass catcher, but certainly in the mid-late round mold of players we've seen in recent years. He has untapped ability and could be a contributor for OU, or he could disappear like he's done many a time in State College. Kids got a serious personality though, in a good way.

Losing Will Fuller is both puzzling and a little agitating. Not the most high profile of recruits but he has great size and athleticism, and I was looking forward to seeing him develop at Penn State. The real issue is he just firmed and while I think I'd stake my house on none of the others who recommitted to leave, it certainly raises an eyebrow or two.

Khairi Fortt is the biggest loss we've suffered thus far in my view. Silas Redd was slated to be the featured player of our offense, but again, a running back is still a running back; despite the fact that this is only college. Luckily we are just as depthy as ever at linebacker, and another high potential talent in Glenn Carson can slot into one of the vacant spots if/when we reshuffle the trio. Provided Mauti stays healthy and Gerald Hodges has the year we (and most nationally) would expect him to have, the unit should be beyond fine.

...Seriously though, take a look at some of the responses Justin Brown's gotten on twitter after deciding to transfer. I fully understand why some would be disappointed and upset, but it's ridiculous. Rob Bolden has seemingly wanted out forever and shown little to no interest in the school or program and I wouldn't say one negative thing to him either. Brown is getting flamed. Embarrassing for us rational individuals who support Penn State and I really feel for the kid.

This may not be related to PSU Football per say, but could anyone here give me the details on how the reduced scholarships and other sanctions that have been passed down upon you guys? I'm doing a realistic Dynasty based upon what's happened and it'd be a real help.

Onto PSU Football.. Wow quite a lot of guys have transferred. I'd imagine Justin Brown is a big loss as well as Khairi Fortt. How well do you think Penn State will do this year? Realistically, what games should you win and should you lose. I'm hoping Rob Jones gets a chance to supplant Matt McGloin as the Starting QB, what's the likelihood of that happening?

I believe for the next four years it's 15 schollarships a year and a max of 65 schollarships players on the team at a time?

4-8 is what I expect, anything better would be cool.

10 this year, and 20 over the next four years, totaling 90.

Justin Brown isn't a huge loss, but Fortt potentially could be. Luckily we're stocked at linebacker, but Brown's transfer hurts the depth at receiver more-so than his potential impact this year. He should do well at OU. Fortt at Cal will be interesting.. I personally don't see the fit, but he's a great athlete and ready to contribute.

Me personally, I don't think we've suffered a crippling or devastating transfer to this point, primarily because we don't have anything of major significance to lose. Some vary on Silas Redd's departure, but I don't see it costing us 3-4 wins. I think a max of 8-4 is attainable, best case scenario. Realistically, 7-5 or 6-6 really shouldn't be a stretch. It's not as if we're Indiana, here. We went 9-4 last year with futile play at QB and didn't lose a plethora of starters.

And it's *Paul Jones. Wink

In other news...

-2013 recruit number four has de-committed: 6'2" 205 lbs. 3-star WR/LB Zach Bradshaw, who we recruited as a linebacker, re-opened. Michigan State is said to be a possibility. Link: http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/Penn-State-loses-another-commitment.html

-Last but not least, and the worst news of the day, we will have names on the back of our jerseys in 2012. Announcement came today to make it official. We'll also wear uniforms that sport a blue ribbon to support victims of child abuse. Half good, half bad. Link: http://www.gopsusports.com/sports/m-footbl/spec-rel/080712aaa.html

All in all rough day thus far.

I have a slightly different opinion on the jerseys. The no name on the back represented a purity and unity among the team. The name on the back adds accountability to each and every member.

I understand tradition and see that point, but BOB wants to move in a different direction.

Plus, big time recruits like the names on the back and I like big recruits
