Who says when you trade a game in, it means you weren't that interested in it? Is it wrong to trade in The Show 10, when I just purchased The Show 11? |
The return for a sports game is terrible unless something has changed in the last few years. That netted you what $3? |
Even if it was just $3, I would never play that game again. I thoroughly enjoyed that game for a year, but a newer better product came out, so I chose to go with that. I fail to see what's wrong in this case. |
its more like $0.25. Sports games really have no trade-in value. You are most likely spending more in gas driving over to GS than what the sports game is worth. What i sometimes do with sports games is just give them away to family members. _________________

I completely agree. I haven't played Madden since 2008, and as a matter of fact I think that was the last game that I've traded in (I played for a few months and traded it in). _________________ Equal Opportunity Hater

It's a +50% trade in week at Gamestop if anyone is interested. Think it's about time I trade in Black Ops. Think I might try my hand at Homefront. _________________

I don't often trade in games unless it's a deal I can't pass up, and I like the idea of having my own collection of games anyway.
Multiplayer centric games have an obvious replay value, and if it's a single player only experience that I really enjoy than it's no different to me than having a collection of movies I really enjoy because I know I'll be back to play them eventually again anyway.
Though of course I don't drop $60 on single player centric games unless they're going to give me unbelievable play value like the Fallout games or other RPGs. If you wait long enough you can get most single player centric games for $20-30 new in 6 months to a year anyway. I remember "gamestop renting" Bioshock 2 when it came out and though I enjoyed it I had no reason to play it more, and now it's $20 and I'm thinking about buying it because at that price it's totally worth it. |

I can see you don't want to follow what I'm posting so why are you asking questions? If you want answers feel free to PM me. Otherwise get back to the thread topic. I wasn't trolling anyone. I was giving real world advice. If you don't like it move along. |
Not once did you offer advice.
Why would people follow what you've said? If they can get value for something they own but no longer want, then what is the point of keeping it?
If you bought a car in 2003, had it for 8 years, and decided to get a new one...do you just keep that car, and buy the new one, or do you sell/trade that car and help pay for the new one?
You weren't trolling...Just being ignorant and throwing out subtle personal attacks.
Moving on... |
See that's the issue you fail to understand what I was saying. willfully stretching the concept.
I understand what you're attempting to say. You made it quite clear.
If you buy a game that you're not that interested in why bother purchasing it to begin with?
I buy games I'm not that interested in? The only time I'll do this is if it's cheap. Like under $10. But a DiRT 2? I did everything in that game, I won every race, I played a lot online. So I decided to trade it (got $15 for it) for something else (essentially Mass Effect 2). Not really a hard concept to understand...
I don't use playstation games any more. By the time I stopped using them they were basically worth what a coaster is worth. Is that so difficult?
So you were done with them years after buying them? Oh ok...
Maybe you can understand that purchasing something that you will use longer than 12 hours is wiser than something that you get bored with in a day. |
I typically play games longer than 12 hours...at least the ones I spend a significant amount of money on (Fallout 3, New Vegas, CoD, DiRT 2, Assassins Creed 1/2, etc). Once I pretty much do everything in those games, I trade them (and while they still all have value), unless it's something I never want to get rid of (Fallout 3, Just Cause 2).
Holding on to something seems dumb to me, unless it's a game you'll keep coming back to. _________________

Ok so I traded in Black Ops, WWE Raw vs, Smackdown, and a Wii game my daughter doesn't play anymore..Cooking Mama or something and got $99 credit. Got Homefront for $45 and put the rest towards GOW3. If you are going to trade in now's the time to do it. _________________

Yep. Store was packed. Anyone that trades in on a week that isn't +50% markeup is just plain dumb. I always hold out. It's a good thing they released the Homefront MP demo because I played it the entire night last night and was addicted. I avoided the game cause of the bad reviews but the MP is damn good. _________________

I never trade to GameStop unless they give me more than I could sell on eBay, or they run the deal...I traded in games a couple months ago, ended up getting like $10 for Darksiders...they gave me $14.50 for Lego Star Wars (surprised at that)...lol. Used that to buy Mafia 2...then just traded that for Borderlands.. _________________

I would say it sets a bad precedent to keep around stuff you'll never use again that you could get money for |
When I was in college I worked at a Game Stop for a couple months as one of those turrible "managers" and let me tell you the people that trade stuff in tend to be less than intelligent. |

Funny you should say that. In Norway (may have been Sweden or Finland) they have track schooling. What I mean by that is they put super smarties in one school system, average students in another, and special needs in a third. Too split them up they and many other countries have been using a particularly long test (multiple hours). A recent study showed there was a simple five minute test that had as much accuracy in determining the difference between the brighter and duller individuals. _________________

Love how something as trivial and simple as whether or not to trade in video games because all sorts of in depth and philosophical. It's called prerogative. Some people look at the used game that they are done with as a depreciating item. The quicker you trade it in the more it's worth because it's still a hot title. Others look at it as I spent $60 on it so it's worth $60 no matter how long I've had it. Neither is right, neither is wrong it's all about prerogative. If you trade in on a +50% markup week you get exceptional value back for the game so for me that is the smartest move. If you never trade it in then it sits on your game shelf for eternity and is there if you ever get the inkling to play it again. Whichever you choose then best of luck. _________________
