Electronic Arts – the mega-publisher behind a litany of games including Madden, FIFA, Battlefield, Dead Space, Mass Effect and more – will be “discontinuing” its Online Pass initiative. In a statement provided to VentureBeat, EA’s John Reseburg said that “none of our new EA titles will include that feature.”

Very nice. Can't believe EA is doing this. I wonder if this is still the case with past titles?

Apparently it wasn't the revenue generator EA thought it would be from used game sales. Added to the fact they needed a PR boost, it was a no-brainer.

However, there might be something on the next-gen systems that already has a built in online code. We'll see.

Wow, looks like they are feeling the pressure from getting voted worst company of the year. Don't know if we should vote them it again to see if they keep improving or don't vote them to see if they get the memo that this is a good step

Good news, especially if you buy used games. Hopefully carries over to next gen. Being that their CEO just resigned because of bad earnings, this must've been one of his bad news. Wonder what will happen when they get a new CEO. The guy who preceded Riccitello, Larry Probst, made this call.

They must be worse off then we thought. Laughing

This just wasn't generating enough income to balance out the terrible terrible terrible PR it generated for them.

Yeah, makes you wonder if the next-gen consoles have something like this in its infrastructure anyway.

EA is trolling all of us. They are smart, not stupid. The only reason they are doing this is to create more microtransactions through Ultimate Team. Good thing for their consumers, but in the end they are only doing this to make more money.

You do realize there are other games EA is behind besides sports ones, right?

Maybe they're trying to create Ultimate Team in the next Mass Effect and Dragon Age Wink
