I think it has always been in terms of quality of play. | It absolutely is. The FMF has much more money than MLS does. |
I don't know about that, but I do wonder why the FMF doesn't bring more vets in their twilight years anymore (just know about Guardiola and Butragueño) like the MLS is doing. I don't know if we could pay like Beckham's monstrous salary but maybe some other players. | The MLS probably has the more high end salaries but the average salaries in Mexico are much higher, which creates better teams. |
Yeah, Marquez makes 4 mil a year. He would never make that in Mexico. However, besides players like and Henry, Mexico offers better salaries. There's a reason why lots of the players in South American leagues want to play in Mexico rather than their own league. The Mexican league has gotten an influx of Spanish players the past few years. Luis Garcia, Tamudo, and Marc Crosas are now playing on Mexican teams. _________________

Easily, but there are quite a bit of things that the FMF can do to improve. Not sure if they'll do them, though. They follow the money. |
The improvements would hurt them in the pocket? |
Bump
How could these improvements hurt the FMF in the pocket? I feel like an improvement would help make money (at least in the long term) right? _________________
Drive off into the sunset, you brilliant bastard.
|

For example, instead of having two seasons a year, you could just have one long season like in Europe and the majority of the world. However, that would mean no "liguilla" and that's were they two TV companies make a good amount of their money.
Another thing that could improve the league and national team is to reduce the number of foreign players allowed on a teams. Even if you lower it by one, that's 17 less foreign players and 17 more Mexican players in the league. Plus, it would force the teams to look for quality in the foreigners they bring. Some teams bring junk foreigners.
Also, Mexico has a contract to play 5 games in the USA a year with their senior team. The people who they have a contract with (SUM) are associated with the MLS. So instead of playing tough games in other countries like Europe, Asia, Africa, or South America we have to play the same teams over and over again (Central American teams, Venezuela, Ecuador, New Zealand, etc.) They know that the stadiums in the US will sell-out no matter who they play.
Fact of the matter is that the current owners are making a decent amount of money and they're comfortable with that. They don't want to change very much. _________________

What if they just had liguilla at the start of the year and combine the season? Like not get rid of liguilla, just change the schedule around? Wouldn't that also build hype for teams that did well in liguilla when the season opened?

Wouldn't limiting the amount of foreign players also hurt FMF though? You already said there are many players coming up form central and south america to play in the league.

Is the team trying to draw attention of the US market or is it just simply the fact that the team will sell out big live games? Do other countries ever do this or is this just kind of a weird thing Mexico does because of the difference between the US and Mexico even though they are so close? _________________
Drive off into the sunset, you brilliant bastard.
|

Was cheaper than going to the CC there. Been down there like 5 times this summer though. Really like the town. If it wasn't for damn OSU.... _________________

Yeah, I hear Corvallis is a like a little HR. One of my friends who goes there has a bunch of friends from HR.
I'll be at the U of O next year if everything goes as planned. _________________

The thing about HR is it's like three towns in one. HR is like the rich kids who wind surf or parents own tech companies, Odell is...well...where people who root for the Mexican national team live, and Parkdale is like hick country. Everyone form Parkdale goes to OSU and the rest of the town is like split 25/25/25/25 UO, OSU, PSU+WOU, other.
If everything goes according to plan for me I'll be at Hawaii Pacific _________________

Wow this thread is dead,
Just a little question, just wondering what you guys think about Gerardo Torrado being called up to the national squad time and time again, knowing his best days are WAY behind him. He's just coming back from injury hasn't played for cruz azul but is fit enought for Mexico? Something weird going on there. I hope he doesn't start these two matches. _________________
