Ayo, not sure if this deserves its own thread, but I figured it could be an interesting discussion and informative for many.

Basically, how would you rank the top leagues in the world? Based on top level talent, parity, competition at the bottom of the table, etc. etc.

Think we can all agree on the top 3, EPL, Bundesliga, and La Liga, but I haven't really found much information on rest of the leagues compared to each other on the interwebz (Serie A, Ligue 1, Eredevisie, MLS, etc.)

Rank and discuss away.

As per UEFA coefficient these are the top 20 league in Europe.

I'd probably put the MLS in the low 20s.

Spain - La Liga
Germany - Bundesliga
England - Premier League
Italy - Serie A
Portugal - Primeria Liga
Russia - Russian Premier League
France - Ligue 1
Ukraine - Ukrainian Premier League
Belgium - Pro League
Netherlands - Eredivisie
Turkey - Super Lig
Switzerland - Super League
Czech Republic - Czech First League
Greece - Superleague
Romania -Liga 1
Austria - Bundesliga
Croatia - 1. HNL
Cyrpus - Cypriot First Division
Poland - Ekstraklasa
Sweden - Allsvenskan

Currently, yes.

Also, unless we do significantly better than the Italians the EPL could lose a CL spot next year Laughing

No more "Arsenal playing for 4th" jokes.

damn, how did the mighty fall so far?

TBH, most of my knowledge of European leagues comes from playing FIFA, but you guys have the largest amount of times in the 80s and high 70s Laughing

It's been a steady decline since 2011 really (other than Chelsea's fluke win).

We could have gotten away with it if it wasn't for those pesky Italians having a resurgence!!

The rankings are actually pretty fair.

Yeah the rankings are pretty fair. I'd probably have the major ones something like:

Spain - La Liga
Germany - Bundesliga

England - Premier League
Italy - Serie A

France - Ligue 1
Portugal - Primeria Liga
Russia - Russian Premier League

Netherlands - Eredivisie
Ukraine - Ukrainian Premier League
Turkey - Super Lig

Belgium - Pro League
Switzerland - Super League
Greece - Superleague

The Premier League is really deep from top to bottom, but lacks the absolute juggernauts that Germany, Spain, and Italy have.

Juventus had a nice run last year in the Champions League, but I wouldn't consider them juggernauts on the sam level as Bayern, Barca, or Real. I think Juve are probably slightly above Man City, Arsenal, and Man U, but not by much. And after Juve, Serie A is pretty lacking at the top.

Napoli and Fiorentina made the semi finals of the Europa league last year. Something or success can't do.

If you matched up Series A top 8 and ours, right now, they would win.

I still can't believe that England is in a position where it could lose the fourth CL spot. It just goes to show the effect of these teams treating the Europa League as a burden.

I also can't believe that the Scottish Premier has fallen out of the top 20.

That would be the effect of hating yourself to death.

Seemed last year they viewed the Champions League as a burden, as well.
