I think 4 games would be far too lenient for that hit by a repeat offender - it was a clear attempt to injure a star player on the other team outside of the scope of play. If he gets anything less than 8 games I'll be disappointed. He should get more than that IMO, especially with the NHL's emphasis on getting rid of head shots. Retaliation wasn't going to happen last night though unless the game was out of hand - there is too much at stake in the playoffs to just go after a guy. They needed to hit him every chance they got though IMO within the scope of the game. Plus with Shaw out 2 more games and Hossa for who knows how long we can't exactly afford to lose any more players from a depth perspective either.
Had this been a regular season game, I suspect that Bollig or Mayers would have put him through the glass though. _________________

That Raffi Torres hit was so big that it was talked about on news radio here in Milwaukee this morning.
IMO, he should be suspended the rest of the season and for the first 15 games next season. A message must be sent.
What really ticked me off was the reaction of the Coyotes announcers. "That was as clean of a hit as you can get" You gotta be kidding me.... _________________

Lol, leaving his feet, putting his shoulder into Hossa's jaw. Yep...real clean. _________________ Martellus Bennet highlight video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5lP8fHN53t0 |

Really, no talk on here in days?
Well, going into Game 6 Monday... the series isn't out of reach, but the Hawks look so physically and emotionally tired out there. They're missing their regular season points leader in Hossa, Sharp has been invisible for the series, Crawford has given up some soft goals, but the most disappointing stat is still 1/17 on the PP in games that all have been decided by one goal.
Even if they pull and upset and take the series, they'll have to go on to play Nashville, another bunch of scrapers who seem to give them fits just like the Coyotes. |

Well, that sucks. There's no good way to get eliminated, but that sure as hell wasn't it.
Fortunately I don't believe there are any major impending FAs on the team this year that we have to worry about. Where do you guys see this team going in the offseason? I've had very little time to follow the NHL this year, much less the Hawks, so I am essentially clueless. _________________ Martellus Bennet highlight video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5lP8fHN53t0 |

I think they need the same primary things they needed going into last season - a #2 center and another physical defenseman. _________________

Maybe look into acquiring a goalie. |

Ditto. Shot's were 22-4 at one point and it was 1-0 Phoenix. We had the 22. _________________

Right the 5th shot was a goal on Crawford. It was just so embarrassing. |

We could use an upgrade in goal but I thought Crawford was good enough to win in this series - Smith just played at an unbelievable level. Our PP and PK units were atrocious as they were all season which I think was a far bigger factor in us losing the series. Crawford allowed 10 regulation goals in the first 5 games of the series - with the offensive talent on this team we should have won AT LEAST 3 of those games in regulation if not more. He deserves blame without question for the Hawks being eliminated, but I think he did enough for us to win had the team been able to solve Smith like their talent level suggests they should have. _________________

Crawford reminds me a lot of Rex Grossman. Good talent, questionable mental toughness, and has obvious flaws but receives just a little too much of the blame.
Obviously, Crawford gave up some soft goals in the series. But when your team is designed for offensive finesse, skating, and puck possession, and they can't get around Arizona's grider style, that's a problem. And when you're 1 of 19 on the power play and outshooting your opponent but not scoring in a series where five out of six games went to overtime, that's a problem as well.
It's nice when a goaltender can stand on his head. But you can't count on him to win the game by himself every night. |
