Alchemist is def one of the GOATs. Rae & Ghost have such great chemistry. I do like how he flipped that same beat for M.O.P. and Kool G. Rap a little better tho.

Both sound good, I personally feel 'The Forest' is far superior still because it's so much cleaner. M.O.P. is dope though, one of my favorite crews. |
Honestly I liked the Forest better because the first rapper in the other song just shouted at me lol.
My two fav's by Alchemist are To Be Determined (on Evidence's Layover EP)

And The Red Carpet on Evidence's Cats & Dogs album

Yup, I agree. The original is so perfect in how clean it is.
Yo, that second Alchemist joint you posted...
That beat is FILTHY. As you can see, by my need to use all the font modifiers I did. Dope work on the boards. _________________

Oh I noticed lol! And if you haven't checked out all of that album (or Evidence's first album The Weatherman) please do and get back to me. I have never heard a negative review of those albums. Strait gold. Alc does a fair number of beats too considering him and EV are step brothers. _________________

| You guys should compile a Spotify playlist, I know some songs might not be available on there, but for those that are it'll be great to subscribe and have access to current and any future additions. |

Thought I'd post this in here too:
Any fans of Hieroglyphics should remember Extra Prolific. Snupe got unceremoniously kicked out of Hiero after dissin' Jive Records execs at Souls of Mischief's No Man's Land release party. The next day Souls, Casual and Extra Pro were shown the door from their Jive contracts (which turned out well for Hiero). Extra Prolific had one of the best debuts by a West Coast artist alongside The Pharcyde, Souls, Dr. Dre, Ras Kass, Casual, Freestyle Fellowship & Aceyalone (within a couple years of each other). He proved too much of a wildcard for Hiero but I always felt like he was ahead of his time.
Hiero tapes were like vital online currency and I have his 2 for 15 classic follow-up and a couple others. He changed his name to Lee Majors a few years ago (altho there is another Lee Majors in the Bay who spits a much diff style) and switched his lifestyle up.
These are 2 joints from his new album:
"The Rug" - always was a good storyteller and spins a descriptive tale of being on the run over a sick beat
"Discerners" - this beat is so fresh esp in your whip. My goodness. The They Live type concept was flipped nicely.
I've seen Hiero live so many times together and separately but never got to see Extra Pro. _________________

Dr. Dre's legendary classic album The Chronic is 20 years old today (making me feel really old as well).

I remember the premiere of that video. Everybody was going crazy when Cube walks out of the ladies room. It was a huge moment in West Coast hip hop signifying the end of beef between Dre and Cube. _________________

Great video with Bob James about the sampling of "Nautilus":
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2awUkA2X3mk&sns=em
I had a great convo years ago with Domino of Hiero about Bob James denying sample clearance for Souls of Mischief's legendary "Cab Fare" song (I like the remix with the Paul Revere drum track better personally). James said they "Mickey Moused it" which I remember taking umbrage with. Domino was very respectful of James point of view. After all, it was his song. It was frustrating bcuz that could've been a HUGE hit for them. _________________

Nautilus is suuuuuuuuch a dope song! Too bad he won't allow the sampling to go through on those tracks. Many musicians get bitter when their music gets sampled since they feel like their hard work just got ripped off and someone is making money and fame off their labor. Which is undeniably true, but sampling is about taking a pre made piece of music and changing it into your own work. As far as I can see. Recently I have been DIGGING on some Billy Paul. When Love is New and I'm Gonna Make It have been in constant rotation for me. Bob James is a G tho. At least at making music, not necessarily being a cool guy. _________________

Kent is actually one of my roomates' dad. Been to his house before, he's a cool dude. _________________

Good post. Funny how some ppl to this day think sampling is stealing yet have no problem with bands covering songs. _________________
