Following the formula above, we’ll start off this breakdown of Pass Blocking Efficiency by looking at which centers, over the past three years, have given up the most pressure … step forward Jonathan Goodwin. The former Saint and current 49er leads the way with 57 combined sacks, hits, and hurries allowed since 2009.
Didn't pass the eyeball test from viewing the games, now the cold hard numbers...

Glad to see this... and yet sad, of course. Was just having an argument yesterday with a Smith-detractor about how bad our RG and C spots were last year.

(some games better than others, but still... pretty bad)

this actually makes me curious since he's getting quite a bit of flack, if Goodwin is any better then our previous C? was Heitmann for a bit and then who? I dont remember anymore haha

Newberry, Heitmann and Baas (our last 3 starting centers, if I recall correctly) were all much better than Goodwin. I've said it for part of last season and all offseason, Goodwin made the interior of our line so weak. He needed support on every single pass play. At times, Iupati missed a rusher because he had to help Goodwin, and the Rachal/Snyder combo doesn't need one more strike against them. All I want is a Center who can block ONE guy by himself. Is that too much to ask? ONE! It would free up the guards to... I don't know... block?

I remember Newberry being a BAMF but Heitmann I thought was average at best, Bass was decent but we werent goin to overpay him.. hmmm. I guess its always to have a player named Goodwin on your team haha.. ><. He's getting up there in years anyway, wont be long till we see how good our C depth is.

hopefully he can build on that, we've sorely missed a shutdown guy for some time now.
