I think he's talking about The Acacia Strain's new album(which is totally BA). I haven't heard Wormwood from Marduk. Only album of theirs I've heard is Rom 5:12. Love the song "Cold Mouth Prayer". |
Yes it is, I got into it with a hardcore girl last night saying new Acacia blows. Dummy. _________________

Nice. That's smart to base a band off of one cover they did early in their careers...
You could try being constructive here and not just bash every band that people bring up. Just saying...
Surely there has to be something you like that someone else here does. Krisiun, Death, Morbid Angel, Exodus, Immolation, Amon Amarth, Hate, Nile, Testament, Megadeth, Metallica, Artillery, Agalloch, Terrorizer...Surely I had to have hit at least one in that group _________________

Favorite band has been Cradle of Filth since I first heard them around '01. Won't be a popular choice I'm sure due to their more recent commercialism since about the Nymphetamine release and even I'll admit I didn't like the direction of the band at times, Nymphetamine sucked, Thornography wasn't much better but I did think Godspeed was a great album...not a fan of Darkly though. Live show has gone downhill as well...
Lately I've been really getting into The Absence, really underrated band. Love the swedish influence in the riffs, hard to find good american metal bands IMO so it's good to see one that can actually play some good music.
My tastes are pretty wide, love everything from Amon Amarth to Within Temptation (for some reason I have a soft spot for female fronted symphonic metal bands, can't get enough of it, lol). |

I was not shocked to see that it took all of one reply for this to turn into "my metal is better then yours." I had the idea of starting a metal thread about a month ago, and went searching to see if there already was one. About 3 years ago there was, and it was nothing but a bunch arguing over what really is metal and what isn't. There are tons of different kinds of metal, and not everyone likes the others. I personally don't really care for the death metal stuff that much, but that doesn't mean I am wrong. Can we just not comment if there are bands you don't like, otherwise this will die a very quick death?
Right now my favorite metal bands are Amon Amarth (just saw them a few months back and they plaed for nearly 3 hours, fantastic!!!), The Haunted, and In Flames. If you've never listend to the Haunted, check out The Dead Eye, just a phenomenal album IMO. _________________

Know who played the best show I've ever been to? Trivium. Double set because bands dropped out due to bad presale ticket sales. Our city always gets em at the door at this club
Other metal acts I've seen:
Testament was a disappointment live.
Into Eternity was OK.
Avenged Sevenfold was alright. Portnoy was sick. RIP Jimmy
Disturbed was pretty good.
Overkill was also enjoyable.
Not big on metal anymore but I may go see a few bands when they're around. Anthrax, Exodus and Iced Earth are a few I want to see. _________________

My friend's Mom's friend is married to one of them. Which makes us absolutely nothing. Pretty sure at least one of them came out of the area where I live. _________________

Metal is such a varied genre its hard to put it all into one thread. Just about everything has some sort of metal influence on it but aside from just a couple of bands I wouldnt consider any of them pure metal.
And what do we even consider pure metal? Are we talking something like Mercyful Fate? Or Metallica? Or Ulcerate? Or Parkway Drive? Or Ved Buens Ende? Or Trivium? Or Killswitch Engage? Or The Word Alive? I could go on.
With that said, Ive been listening to a lot of lighter material that I could barely consider metal. Ive been listening to a lot of Dance Gavin Dance recently. Really an underrated band. Will Swan is just fantastic.
If Trivium is pop-metal, then Dance Gavin Dance is Beiber-metal
And yet is is considered to be in the metal "family" _________________

Trivium is amazing live. Probably the best Ive seen. Ill list the top 5 best bands Ive seen live:
1. The Devil Wears Prada (not a HUGE fan of the music, but the guys put on a hell of a show and are flawless)
2. Trivium
3. Parkway Drive
4. August Burns Red
5. Dark Tranquility
EDIT: Ive never had a chance to see the more "underground" types of bands such as those Tz listed. Would love to see any of them, though.
Also, Im jelly you saw A7X with Portnoy. Not a big A7X fan (aside from their first two albums, which they rarely play any of that material live), but I would have loved to see Portnoy work his magic. They still put on a good show, but mainly because their lead singer has a helluva voice. _________________
