Tad Kornegay, a consensus first team All-American defensive back from Division I-AA Fordham University is one of them. The 5-foot-10, 175-pound native of Trenton (N.J.) started 11 games at left cornerback for Fordham this season and returned kickoffs for the Rams, who finished a disappointing 5-6 this past season.
While Arizona, Buffalo, Kansas City, New York Jets and Philadelphia have expressed preliminary interest, Kornegay realizes he has a tough road ahead of him.
“I’ve been an underdog all my life,” said Kornegay, who tied for second in interceptions in I-AA with eight. “I’m not worried. I was never in the spotlight too much. I was a good player, but not that ‘prime time’ player because of my size. But I proved everybody wrong.”
And that’s what Kornegay hopes to do if he is bypassed in the draft.
“If I do get drafted, I will be happy and will take advantage of that situation,” said Kornegay, who graduated from Hamilton West High School in 2000.
Kornegay continues his workout routine in preparation for the draft and hopes to get an invite to the NFL Combine.
“My agent (Joel Levine of Island Sports Management of Mineola and Brooklyn, N.Y.) was looking for a place to get me ready for the combine,” Kornegay explained. “He went on the Web, found TEST Sports Clubs, interviewed with Brian Martin and everything worked out great.”
Since December, Kornegay has been training 75-90 minutes per session an average of 4-5 days a week with Martin, CEO and founder of TEST Sports Clubs, and Skip Fuller, TEST Performance Director at the Somerset Bubble and at TEST in Martinsville. Martin and Fuller have put Kornegay through combine testing drills as well as overspeed harness, parachute, acceleration patterns, defensive back specific work, Olympic style power lifting, balancing, flexibility, core training, and more.
“It’s intense, but it’s definitely helping me out a lot,” Kornegay said. “It’s getting me stronger both mentally and physically.
“It’s way more intense than football practice,” Korgenay continued. “I need to find a way to motivate myself as an individual. It’s harder on yourself to be mentally ready because you don’t have your teammates around.”
Martin and Fuller, strength and conditioning specialists with the National Strength and Conditioning Association, have worked with NFL players such as Ray Lucas, Neil O’Donnell, Marco Battaglia and Mike McMahon.
“Tad is a very coachable player with a lot of talent, hard work and dedication,” Martin said. “I feel that he will be very successful in the NFL. He can cover very well and is not afraid to hit people. He can also be valuable as a return man and special teams player. Coaches and scouts need to overlook his size and measure his talent and, most of all, his heart.” |

| I can see BP bringing in one of his local (NY/NJ) boys as an undrafted free agent. |

with this guys off season work ethic, and his performance footage, i don't see him going undrafted. might be a 4th or 5th round sleeper. eventhough the teams are looking for good db he might rise to low 3rd depending on combine workouts _________________
