This is the Official Draft Thread, so where the player picking happens. I'll try and update this whenever I am on FF.
Rules
1. Draft when it is your turn. As of right now there is no time slots so just wait for your pick
2. PM the poster after you. This keeps the draft running
3. All-time players so anyone that has played football professionally
4. Try and give at least a brief summary on each player. A minimum of a wiki intro. It gives us an idea on players that some of us might have not heard of.
5. If you believe that you would miss your pick, PM another member on this forum. LeeEvans says that he is available but he is usually on after 5-6PM EST so take that into consideration. You can always try posting in TARFT and asking a member to do it. I'm sure guys like Blahmann or Wyzz will be up for it.

Zinedine Zidane
With Zinedine Zidane we have the best offensive minded midfielder of all time in providing playmaking all over the pitch, retain possession of the ball, and a guy who was able to take a national team by himself to a World Cup final.
I love it.

EDIT: I forgot the little intro I guess, so here's my explanation...
Diego Maradona, not a lot needs to be said. If you don't know this legend then you definitely haven't been exposed to soccer too much. He definitely is quite the personality but he is individually the best soccer player to ever play. He is responsible for one of the greatest goals ever in the 1986 World Cup against England. As much as I wanted to draft a certain Brazilian, I can't pass up such a fluid and phenomenal goal scorer. He can single-handedly turn a game around.

My original idea was to go with Zidane
But seeing as ElRey nabbed him #1 overall I was stuck
I figured Maradona and Pele to go top 3 so they weren't in my mindset
So without further ado

With the 9th overall pick, Tottenham Hotspur select, Lionel Messi:
I am absolutely shocked that the guy I would have taken 1st overall is still available at #9. I'm not sure I can say much more that hasnt already been said about the GOAT. He has so far won 5 Spanish League Titles, 1 Spanish Cup, 3 UEFA Champions Leagues, 2 UEFA SuperCups, 2 FIFA World Club Cups and an Olympic Gold Medal. His personal awards are endless, but his 3 consecutive FIFA Ballon d'Or awards is the most impressive. At the age of just 24 he still has most of his career ahead of him and lord knows what he will have achieved by the time he calls it a day.
I could post hundreds of quotes about his greatness, but there is only one that I need:

I'll take the greatest goalkeeper of all time in Lev Yashin. I'll edit the post to make give it some jazz later.
FTMP takes Lev Yashin, GK
Yashin is without a doubt the greatest goalkeeper football has ever seen. He has an estimated over 150 penalty saves, had 4 world cup clean sheets but more importnatly than this, he completely changed a position.
Goalkeeper Sweeping
Punching the ball
Organising his defence
Yashin pioneered the goalkeeping position and combined these innovations with phenomenal athleticism which made him a great shot stopper and cemented his position as the greatest.

With the 12th overall pick, Tottenham Hotspur selcet, Paolo Maldini:
One of the greatest defenders of all time. Maldidi is arguably the best ever LB and certainly in the discussion for the best ever CB. His career spanned over 25 years all whilst at AC Milan. He compiled over 900 appearances for Milan winning 7 Serie A titles, 5 Champions Leagues, 2 Intercontinental Cups, 5 UEFA Super Cups, 1 Copa Italia and 5 Supercoppa Italiana.
Maldini also amassed 126 caps for Italy and retired as the most capped player for both Italy and Milan. He was a truly superb captain and a fantastic leader on the pitch.
