From Bears official twitter:
| Quote: | LM: #Bears have hired Jeremy Bates as QBs coach. Bates worked with Jay Cutler in Denver.

Didn't the Bears just say they weren't interested in him about two weeks ago?
Whatever though. Most people here wanted him to get the job anyway.
Now the Bears just need Eddie Royal and Brandon Marshall and everybody will assume inevitable success. |

Yeah I like this move, right choice I think. Just an interesting thought that Brad Biggs has just tweeted:
| Quote: | In #Bears press release, Jeremy Bates does not have title "passing game coordinator."
|
Wonder what that means, whether we have done away with getting a passing coordinator or he is calling passing plays and they just haven't mentioned it. _________________

I would hope it means tice has full control of the offense having two different coordinators for runs and passes is ridiculous IMO. With bates in I expect more play action and bootlegs and with tice in I expect more emphasis on the oline doing their job to the best of their abilities _________________ ADOPT A BEAR= CENTER ROBERTO GARZA

Good hire, someone Jay is familiar with and had success with. |

I like this...
From what I remember of his time in Seattle it was very very average...
I think with less responsibilities he will be able to build on his already established relationship with Jay...
Hopefully we can change the relation ship into a champion ship...

Great hire, no excuses now on the coaching front, he has the guy he wanted all along, now lets get him some weapons!
(side note: I love how the media was wrong again in saying there was no chance Bates would be considered for the job).
Just think about that for a second the bears wouldn't interview him again because he turned us down i 09... how ridiculous is that? _________________

Good deal. Seems like a good candidate and Jay has had success working with him before. Good hire.

Yes, but that was before they signed their GM. I think this shows that the GM is using his power to hire who he wants. Maybe the Accountant and Lovie didn't want him before, but this could be the GM overriding that.
Or it could just be the media being wrong, again.

This is awesome, Jerry and Lovie just always had such a united front of arrogance.
Jay liked Bates. Jay is franchise QB. Hire Bates. It was that simple to begin with....smh
Next is help franchise QB with weapons. Simple. _________________

I reckon the idea of not naming him "passing game" coordinator might have something to do with this...
Via Michael C. Wright when asked about Bates a while back...
| Quote: | | Nope. Lots of folks don't think he and Tice can co-exist. Not a good fit for Bears staff. |
By not given Bates a title with more power than any other QB coach it takes a lot of pressure off Tice if we go through a bad stretch on offence…which is likely in the 1st year of a new offence…
As for hiring Bates as a QB coach it’s a good pick up…if he and Jay did have a falling out it seems it’s well behind them and together we should see some good things out of them if we can get some weapons around Jay. |

Angelo gone.
Martz gone.
New GM asserting authority.
Lovie staying.
Tice staying.
Bates hired.
so far, this has been a good offseason. |

I thought the team made some kind of official release that they weren't pursuing Bates. Hmmm...
I am interested in learning more about his not having passing game coordinator in his title. On one hand it may be that Tice has the full keys and on the other it could be simply a ploy to get the media (who had been critical of the split OC arrangement) off of the team's back. We'll probably never know for sure. _________________
