When did Jay and Bates have falling out? Jay even spoke highly of him on twitter very recently

Jay Cutler @JayCutler6

Be careful what you believe RT @GermanBearsFan: @JayCutler6 Interesting to read Chicago media today calls your ... m.tmi.me/kzW2a

The original twitter directly asked Cutler about Bates and why he wasn't a candidate

side note: I love how the media was wrong again in saying there was no chance Bates would be considered for the job.

I thought the team made some kind of official release that they weren't pursuing Bates. Hmmm...

I am interested in learning more about his not having passing game coordinator in his title. On one hand it may be that Tice has the full keys and on the other it could be simply a ploy to get the media (who had been critical of the split OC arrangement) off of the team's back. We'll probably never know for sure.

I dont think it was ever as big as people made it out to be, the passing game coordinator I think was always just going to help in the design of passing plays, not actually be a split coordinator. It would be crazy for 2 people to be calling plays on game day.

I think he will still do just that, work closely with Cutler and help design some passing plays and give his input on Cutlers strengths and kind of act like a voice for Cutler with the coaching staff.

so far, this has been a good offseason.

to be fair he's not had a lot to work with:

a returner, drafted as a cornerback...
a 5th rounder from a small school...
a third rounder who sat out a year...
an undrafted receiver...
roy williams....

i'll judge him properly when he's had floyd/jeffrey/mo/free agent for a year

That’s true right now but he has had some more talent since he came here in 2004…

David Terrell – 1st round
Bernard Berrian – 3rd round
Mark Bradley – 2nd round
Muhsin Muhammad – FA

Then of course the current guys…my issue is we see very little progression out of these guys…I’m not expecting him to makes these guys elite…just better than they were the season before and we haven’t really seen this.

I thought he was no longer in discussion.. Oh well I'd love to see another 4000 yard season from Jay!

Good move! I was all over the Jeremy Bates for OC bandwagon two seasons ago, glad he's finally joined our team.

Uh, MM90 is this list supposed to be better than our current WR crop just because of the rounds they were drafted in? If so, come on dude. Just because a guy is drafted high, doesn't mean he's any good, and vise versa. I'm not sure that is what you are saying here though. Think

Of course that’s not what I’m saying…I’m saying that regardless of which WR has walked through the door Drake has never oversaw any kind of progression of their talent…the only other WRs drafted out with the guys I listed since he came here are…Airese Currie, Marcus Monk, Derek Kinder Juaquin Iglesias…4 guys who IMO he kinda gets a pass on because they never really had much to work with…but the guys I listed had potential & Drake never got anything out of them...he hasn't got Hester to even being a semi decent WR...Knox is still a good deep threat but have never rounded out his game...I worry that giving him another WR who is going to need a lot of development will be a waste of time.

That list isn't great but it isn't as dreary as its being made out to be. Moose was never going to be developed by Drake - he was a 10 year vet when he arrived. I thought Berrian was pretty good by the time he left here having put up just shy of 1000 yards his last year in Chicago. His best years were certainly under Drake's watch. Bradley seemed to be coming along as a rookie but then blew out his knee and was never the same. Terrell obviously busted hard but also played for the Bears during one of their worst QB eras which shouldn't be overlooked as a factor in his lack of development.

I hope this is a beginning of a GMs/Emery choice. Lovie doesn't want him too bad I do and so does Cutler. Lovie and Jerrys arrogance is what got us into this Martz and Turner mess the buddy garbage. I am really liking this hire. Finally a familiar face to Jay not having to deal another change. Lets get him some major weapons and protection and make things happen before the window closes for our D while rebuilding replacements We like our guys inst going to cut it.

There are obviously other factors as to why these guys didn’t play well…but let’s not overlook Drake’s role…when was the last time you saw a Bears WR improve an area of his game?

You do realize the Lovie's contract gives him sole power over his staff, this was a Lovie choice.
