Quote:
The helmet-to-helmet shot knocked Tony Dorsett out cold in the second quarter of a 1984 Cowboys-Eagles game, the hardest hit he ever took during his Hall of Fame NFL career.

"It was like a freight train hitting a Volkswagen," Dorsett says now.

"Did they know it was a concussion?" he asks rhetorically during an interview with The Associated Press. "They thought I was half-dead."

And yet, he says, after being examined in the locker room - a light shined in his eyes; queries such as who sat next to him on the Cowboys' bus ride to the stadium - Dorsett returned to the field and gained 99 yards in the second half. Mainly, he says, by running plays the wrong way, because he couldn't remember what he was supposed to do.

"That ain't the first time I was knocked out or been dazed over the course of my career, and now I'm suffering for it," the 57-year-old former tailback says. "And the NFL is trying to deny it."

Wonder if more ex players start suing?

This, people, is why goodell fines so much. Now maybe people will understand the method to his madness.

shouldnt he be suing the cowboys? seems like it would be the teams fault not the entire NFL.

Its more the consistency of the fining that I take issue with.

Exactly, I think people are ok with the fines. Its the "pick a number" system Goddell uses

isn't this the reason they are now paid millions to play a game. the risk is known to the players and nobody make them go on the field. they want the money and the fame. and the injuries are already known. so if you don't want to risk it come get a normal 9-5 job like the rest of us.

Yep this is pretty much how I feel. Not like anyone forced them to play football for years. They had plenty of other paths in life they could've taken

He wont win regardless who he sues, he's suing the NFL because of their new efforts to protect players, they will most likely quickly give him a settlement to protect their image. At least that's probably what his lawyer thinks.

The fines are donated to charity. Not to ex-players.

Correct. But people will still whine anyway.

The problem, as has already been stated, is the lack of consistency in many calls/non-calls. That there often seems no real method to the madness at all.

This reminds me of the people who sued cigarette companies after getting lung cancer . . .

whodathunk that slamming your 2-400lb bodies full speed against others for 60 minutes a week was going to cause physical issues down the road?
