OK I have a thought that I will probably get ripped on but oh well here it is.

With Spags as our New DC and his history of Safteys playing more coverage rather than blitz what do you guys think we should do with Harper? Can we survive with him playing more coverage than blitzing? Now I know we will be playing more zone rather than man to man but still he is horrible in pass coverage. What do you guys think we should do?

Now, IMHO I think we should try to find a team willing to trade a pick or 2 in this years draft in exchange for Harper like the Rams where Harper will continue to thrive under GW scheme. Reallisticly I think we could get a 4th or maybe a low 3rd for him. With deal him we free up some more cap space and could replace him with a younger Saftey through the draft with that 3rd or 4th round pick or find one in FA that is more known for his coverage skills. I think with our new scheme it will be like playing with basically 2 FS rather than a FS and a SS. So what do you guys think?

Keep in mind I like Harper I think he is a great player but I think he will not do us much good this year outside of run support.

Spags blitzes his SS a lot, he uses a variety of safety and LB blitzes. I think Roman Harper will still be a GOOD SS in this system, but he won't be as good as he was in Williams scheme, he fit perfectly into Williams blitz heavy scheme. I think after a disappointing season, he'll be shopped next off season. I actually wouldn't be surprised to see the Rams make a run at him this off season, he fits Williams scheme perfectly.

And for a 3 time pro bowl safety that knows the system he would fetch a second round pick easy. I personally wouldn't mind trading harper for a 2nd and using the money we were paying him to pursue both Jason Jones and Michael griffin

3rd rounder? I'll just keep him.... and I'm of the biggest Harper haters out there.

Lol no he wouldn't get a second round pick. He is 29, below average in coverage and at a position that isn't exactly top priority. He is also prob not even top 5 at his position. I would say we could get a 4th round pick for him.

Of course what was I thinking, the fans have a high 2nd, so a 3rd and a 5th. I'm not saying a 2nd to just any team, a 2nd with the rams, the team that gregg Williams is now the dc for, the defense that harper fits perfectly. Any other team I agree, the rams though, we can get more.

I doubt it, honestly. I'd say Harper is worth a late second at very best. He has a lot of flaws, especially his coverage skills. If it were the Rams, they might give up their third, but there's no way they give up what is essentially a first round pick for him. 33 is WAY to steep.

With an aging Vilma, injury prone Castillas, and Wilson who has not demonstrated that he is a 4-3 OLB...I would hate to lose Harper. I am more than willing to accept him being a mediocre atpass coverage with what he brings in the box.
