Had a thought...maybe Dallas Clark could be brought in on a one year deal. He's still a talented receiver, and I know we had practically acquired Tony Gonzalez until that trade fell through. I think having a vet like Dallas around would only sharpen Finley's outlook.

I'm not a huge fan of the player as he is now, but he'll come cheap and I really think a vet could straighten J-Mike out.

I kinda doubt that. I fully expect some team to give him a mid to upper level starting TE contract.

Why? He's been injured a lot recently and doesn't have much left in the tank.

There is always at least 1 team that is willing to sign guys like him to what they were rather than what they are if they can play at all.

Whoever signs Manning may end up with the Colts castoffs.

I understand that. I just don't think a GM is going to overpay for Dallas Clark, whose clearly over the hill.

I don't think its very likely at all that we go for Dallas given the way Ted has built this team, but I think at this point getting Finley's mouth shut up and his mind right would go a long way towards molding him into a star. I know we pushed hard for Tony G a few years back, and I think a veteran presence, even if for only a year, would help J-Mike.

I have a sick feeling that the Vikings are going to end up with Mario Williams. That would be a scary front four. The rest of their defense though....

After the Texans released Eric Winston, you have to think they're closing in on a deal.

What about taking a look at Joseph Addai? He would add some veteran leadership to out backfield and can do a little bit of everything. He has 191 career receptions and would be incredibly effective on 3rd down. Is he the player he used to be? No. He's been banged up and he'll be 29 in May. But he could be productive in an offense like ours and he could probably be signed on the cheap. I'd love it.

Atogwe was dumped by the 'Skins today. From my memory, he has the skillset to be effective in this defense if Collins cannot return.

1. When do we hear from Collins?
2. What sort of interest would Atogwe generate in FA?
3. Would he be a good fit in GB if the money is right? (will the money be right?)

on the topic of Washington safeties, I'm surprised that Landry is the one people are talking about. Atogwe seems a much better fit for the way we do business..

edit: if Collins were to find out he can't play anymore, Atogwe would jump to the top of my list of players-to-consider. Rumor is Washington will cut him, and he should be a cheap fill-in type player who could hold us over until next seasons draft (not many good safeties available this season)

I'll pass. Veteran leadership at RB doesn't seem as important and I'd rather give a shot to a UDFA.

And their oline, and their receiving core. I am sorry, nothing the Vikes do this off-season will scare me. The vikes are doing a good job of cutting some vets and getting young. They are doing the right thing, but they have a way to go. I wonder if they are going to call it a rebuilding or a retooling year? Laughing

I don't see it. Williams isn't getting any younger, he doesn't want to be part of a re-build, especially since the Vikings have been moving in the wrong direction the past two seasons. There are teams that have been on the up-and-up that would be much more attractive options to him. Buffalo, for example.

Because remember, Buffalo buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo buffalo.

With Quarless probable to start the year on PUP, I don't see any way we can go into 2012 with fewer than 5 TEs on the roster.

I'm honestly much more concerned that Williams goes to the Bears. Peppers and Williams would be hard to block for any team.

Well, you are certainly entitled to your own opinion, but if you'd rather have a UDFA on our roster over Joseph Addai, I really have to question your thought process. I mean, that's crazy!

Definitely a possibility. One that I really, really don't want to happen. How many players can we leave in to block??
