| Quote: | Saints owner Tom Benson and coach Sean Payton went to New York to meet with Commissioner Roger Goodell. They presumably left G.M. Mickey Loomis in New Orleans because he has bigger fish to fry.
And one guy that he’s trying to get into the pan is receiver Marques Colston.
A league source tells PFT the two sides are working feverishly toward finalizing a new contract before Colston becomes a free agent at 4:00 p.m. ET on Tuesday. Colston, we’re told, badly wants to remain a Saint. |
EDIT:
Colston agrees to 5 year deal worth around 40 mil!

| Quote: | Wide receiver Marques Colston reached a five-year deal worth around $40 million to stay with the New Orleans Saints, a source said.
Included in the deal is about $19 million in guarantees, the source said. Colston was one of the key free agents the Saints couldn't afford to lose. |

Jon Vilma also seems to think that the Saints will announce that theyve resigned Nicks and Dunbar tommorow.
Maybe Saints fans will hear some unexpected but great news tommorow...

[quote]New Orleans Saints have made guard Carl Nicks a 'respectable offer' via his agent according to Carl Nick's Twitter.
Carl Nicks @bigbrickhouse77
Y'all know I keep it real on this. My agent told me the saints made me an offer and it is respectable...
Nicks went on to say...

Still need time to think and talk with my family
The Saints are currently negotiating with WR Marques Colston and have been all day.[quote] _________________

interesting news and excellent at the same time. Anyone think if/when we get those guys signed that Brees won't be too far behind. Maybe he is waiting to see if they are able to push up their offer after bringing them back _________________

My fingers are crossed... if we DO re-signNicks/Colston... I hope Brees will follow suit! _________________

My thinking is that once they and if they get Nicks and Colston sign, then Drew will agree to take less money and get release, then sign at a lower price. Maybe a deal about 14 a year. He will free up 5 million in cap space. Then the restructures and cuts start to create more cap space. _________________

People always underestimate Loomis as a GM. He has made a couple bonehead moves, but he is one of the best at what he does. I can't see us bagging both Nicks and Colston, but if anyone could make it happen, he can.
And I am hoping he does! _________________

I think Colston is in the bag... He and his agent understand the Saints value him the most. The real question is with Nicks, is respectable good enough? _________________

| There has been loss of Loomis hating this offseason. People have forgotten what a wizard he is. I don't know how he will do it with our cap space. |

If we get Nicks and Colston back nothing else will matter for a couple months, at least.
