I'm not really getting the Reggie Smith hype. He hasn't done much to distinguish himself as a starting caliber safety.

I like Atogwe if he will come here. Reggie Smith is a young safety who was behind Gholdson and Whitner in San Fran. He should be relatively cheap has decent measurables and played safety and CB at oklahoma. We wouldn't have that large of a body of work given the lack of starting opportunity.

Bush just re-signed with the Packers on a 3 year deal.

Not really upset about that. He would have been a ST guy/part time safety or corner (forget what he plays). I'll be just fine with Leonard in that role if he's healthy.

What about Courtney Greene from JAX. Dude can fly around the field and is solid in run support. Probably would came cheap too.

I thought about him. Is he available? I am too lazy to go check.

He's a RFA, but would only cost a 7th round pick to sign.

I've been reading the tid-bits from the LaRon Landry/Mike Tannenbaum conference call and it sounded like Landry was adamant that he can play FS in our defense. Sounds determined to prove that he's not only a "box" safety...

As for Tannenbaum, he says the team will be looking for more versatile players (safeties) in the secondary (game plan specific guys) and that the team definitely hasn't closed the door on Tebow.

If you ask me, I'm getting the feeling that Landry and Eric Smith will be the "starters" going into training camp and make their switches based on the down and situation. It makes me believe that Jim will be resigned when healthy and the Jets will look in the draft for the "versatile" DBs to fill the secondary. I'm not totally against this as Smith isn't bad in the box, he's just awful in coverage. If he only stays on the field in running situations and we draft safeties that can play in passing situations year 1 (or use Jim who is very savvy in coverage), I'll be fine with it. Not a perfect scenario, but not too bad either.

I can see us moving Landry around alot. He will see a lot of time at FS. Hes probably not going to be asked to plan man alot, maybe just play zone a knock who ever crosses his area out. But I agree with T, we need a versatile safety to put in that rotation or start at FS, and keep Landry at SS as his main position. I still want Phillip Thomas from Syracuse in the later rounds.

I'm glad we getting some speed back there, and a person who can make a big hit.
