that isnt an option. Claiborne probably wont fall past the Bucs at 5 or the Rams at 6. Who is going to trade up?

If a team trades up it will likely be for Claiborne or Tannenhill

Possibly Blackmon as well.

And just to be clear, I think that Kalil is the right pick to make and the best pick, but I'd have no issue with Claiborne as I think he will be a very good CB.

I also want people to understand that Kalil isn't as much of a sure thing as most believe. I take a look at a guy like Da'Brick out in NY. He struggled mightily at times this year, and he was one heck of a prospect.

Give me Mo.

Ferguson is one of the three best tackles in football!! He struggled, compared to his potential, his rookie season because he was underweight (reportedly he weighed less than 290 lbs.) He bulked up after his rookie year and has been dominant since.
And Sanchez (a sturdier version of Ponder) still can't get it done. Even with Kalil I don't see Ponder staying healthy or productive past week 3. A 3rd or 4th rd OT will suffice once Webb takes over.

I'm all about CBs and WRs this draft, so for me it comes down to Claiborne and Blackmon. I'm not worried about having an overqualified CB in our Cover-2 D vs NFC North passing attacks so I'll take Claiborne and wait for the best WR available in the 2nd. If there's a run on WRs in the 1st, we pick best CB SS OT available in 2nd and load up on 3rd and 4th rd WRs.

If Rick Spewman is reading this: Yo, go Mo!

Ponder was a better college qb than Sanchez, despite playing for a program with much less talent than USC. I believe Ponder will ultimately be the more successful pro quarterback as well. I think we will see a much improved qb in 2012...if the o line can keep him alive!!!

Exactly, no one is going to be trading up for Kalil.

^ That is generally how I feel as well. I wouldnt be upset with Claiborne, but Kalil is the much better pick all around and does more to keep Ponder on his feet, which needs to be the goal.

Its not a 1a vs 1b situation, Kalil is clearly 1 and Claiborne is clearly 2.

With the Bucs signing Wright, and getting back Talib, why would they take Claiborne? They could take Trent Richardson...

Rams need more help at receiver than CB (but it might be an option).

The key is the Browns and what they do.

The Bucs will still consider Claiborne as BPA, and best defensive player available. Talib still has legal issues and Wright is a very mediocre outside CB. They could add Claiborne and play Talib in the Charles Woodson role as Talib is a nice playmaker.

Ponder doesn't draft.

No, but Spielman does, and he has staked his reputation on his decision to take Ponder 12th overall last year.

Or they could consider taking Richardson to help take more pressure off of Freeman. You don't sign a guy like Wright so he can be a nickle back.

Minnesota is in a key position right now actually. I think a lot of teams will be interested in moving up to grab Blackmon (or hell even Kalil as left tackles don't grow on trees). Minnesota might be best moving down and gathering picks if they are going to stay silent in free agency.

I would be calling TB to see if they want to jump the Browns.
This assumes they really want Richardson or Blackmon, now that they have some adequate personel in the CB positions.

They just signed Vincent Jackson :p

IF Minnesota plays their cards right, they could end up with Reilly and some other good prospects I would bet.

actually Talib would be the nickel, in the Charles Woodson hybrid CB/s role.

And what is wrong with being 3 deep at CB. the nickel CB is just as much of a starter as the third LB in todays NFL. If elite LTs dont grow on trees, why would we pass one up?

pick 5 is still early for a RB, there is a lot of talent at RB in round 2 that they could grab like Lamar Miller or David Wilson. I think Richardson is probably the best overall pick they could make, though if tampa really wants to improve its defense, Claiborne is the way to go.

Tampa has no need for a WR now. Vincent Jackson is the #1, Mike Williams is the #2 and Presotn Parker in the slot. that is more than adequate and Mike Wiliams was quite good as a rookie.

Matt Kalil is a better player and a better prospect than Claiborne.

Also LT is a bigger need. Protecting and developing Christian Ponder has to be the #1 priority going forward. If Ponder doesn't succeed we will be back to square one and it doesn't matter how good the defense is.

And Benn as well at WR.
