Ive been thinking about this whole draft situation for a little while now and I thought I would make a thread for it. The question is: Would you rather be a lottery prospect or a uncertain prospect that could go late in the first-second round?

Would you rather your big night be lottery day, where you kind of have an idea of where youre going to land after the dust settles? There is certainty for you where you know you wont be waiting long to be picked. You would have an opportunity to play generous minutes and there is the possibility of being the face of the franchise.

The downside to that certainty is youre going into a bad situation. Most lottery teams have a poor foundation in place with no leaders, no defined roles and/or stability issues with the roster/coaching staff. There are several young guys who go into these situations and completely fail because of the circumstances.

Or would you rather being a guy who's draft status is a bit unpredictable where you wont know anything for sure until your name is called? It may be nerve-racking sitting around waiting to hear your name. I presume it to be disappointing to fall so far.

Although their status is uncertain, they come into a much better situation as you could catch on with a playoff team. There is a solid foundation that the lottery teams lack with leaders, roles and management. You could come in and learn from the stars and veterans in place and you still have a chance to earn playing time. This situation would offer the chance to play a more defined role since it is known what everyone's job is going into it all.

And there is the obvious matter of being competitive and non competitive too if winning matters to you guys (if youre a man )

I should probably add my opinion.

I have gone back and fourth but I really like those guys that slide a little but end up flourishing because they are in a good situation. I value winning over personal success. I have been the best player on bad teams where I score a bunch of goals, points and get the ball whenever I want, but it always pales in comparison to playing a role on a winning team.

middle case scenario, i'm decent and i'll always have that second contract to gtfo out of bad situation

best case scenario, i'm a baller and can do wtf i want


unless you're a guy like lebron, first contract should be all about securing your financial future
