Okay now that he's getting a full offseason his 2nd year with musgraves offense. Now the John Carlson signing i think will really help on 3rd downs and take a little pressure off the recievers. I expect him to really make progress in decision making if he does i think he could be a top 10 QB easily with his accuracy at times. What do you guys expect?

It's a big year for him. I don't want to say make or break, I think his 3rd year would fall into that category. But I want to see him take strides in improving his game. He was throwing it to the other team way toooooo much towards the end.

But his first game against GB gives me hope.

Be a better QB than Tarvaris. Oh wait, he's already that. Wink

Definitely agree. Im not willing to show any signs of giving up on a young QB until after his 3rd year, unless he plays like complete crap next season. I feel he's proven that he can throw passes that an NFL QB is expected to make. His real issue is the decision making and since he's a smart guy Im sure he'll figure it out. [/b]

Ponder bashing sucks.. He should show lots of improvement after having a full off season to learn the offense and hopefully the vikes O line will be improved so that should help also. i like the Carlson signing and cant wait to see what WRs we draft.

here's what i expect from more of a numbers standpoint:
at least 13 games started.
63% comp.
3200 yards passing
18 tds
10 ints

He actually looks like he belongs...he actually leads, rather than cowers. And in fact, in 1 year, his YPA equals that of Tarvaris after 5.

Furthermore, if you wish to compare the 2, in their first 10 starts:

Christian - 13 TDs, 13 INTs
Tarvaris - 7 TDs, 11 INTs

Like VD said, he's gonna get bashed so hard. Just saying.

He has all the tools to succeed. He has an above average arm, he is very intelligent, and athletic.

He doesn't seem like someone you have to cutdown your playbook for (allthough, as a rookie, I think you can make the exception).

His biggest problem is timing, and the fact that Minnesota attempt to create an Oline just can't block as a whole. He had about 1 second to throw alot of th time, which will make any QB fail in this league.

Overall, I think he has top 10 potential like you said, and before the draft I compared him to Aaron Rodgers, however a select few here will say he's already one of the NFL's biggest bust and shouldn't be on a roster (Jamarcus Russell is better, anyone? Laughing )

1. Expect him to actively take on the team leader role. Last year, according to multiple people who seem to be fairly close with the team, said that Ponder took the "rookies should be seen, not heard" role, especially when McNabb was on the team. Now he's the leader, and looked at as one, not just another rookie.

2. Expect to see the confidence in the pocket that we saw before his hip injury. Ponder got a little happy footed after the Denver game, and after he kept taking those vicious hits.

3. Expect better quick reads. We saw him do it a few times, then he would hesitate and the throw would be off on others. Ponder needs to master the quick three step drop and throw, like Rodgers has. With Harvin and our two tight ends, the short quick game will be what moves the ball down field.

4. Expect to see a completion percentage around 60%.

5. Expect to see a touchdown to interception ratio closer to 2:1 than 1:1.

I think he will make great strides. Give him some targets, an o-line that can actually block, and a defense that doesn't put us in 20 point deficits, and he'll shine. I think he'll be average next year. He'll have his bad games, ok games, and amazing games. The biggest things though; I think he'll be top 5 on 3rd down/redzone, 60% completion, and 1.5:1 INT ratio. I'm excited, and I expect a breakout year in his 3rd year.

I've seen glimpses of 'Brees-like' when making his reads, he needs to make that habit.

I agree with everything but #5. more like 18 to 12 or so, maybe 20 to 12.
