Eh signing. It makes sense though to bring in an extra body just in case Gerhart and Peterson aren't ready to go or needs to start on the PUP or IR.

I agree but it's another 'who?' signing. It's as if they know for a fact he's going to be cut. At least bring in someone with proven ability to compete. This guy seems raw.

But you bring in someone who is proven and still isn't going to make the roster or see much playing time, might as well go with young unknown and see if you can get someone good who is a diamond in the rough.
With this idea in mind I don't like the 1 yr. contract. Might as well give him 2yrs. so you can have some leverage to trade him if he hits. 1yr. and he can just walk unless we'd tag him which might be too much of a stretch.

I can't fathom why anyone is upset with this signing. RB is actually a position of need with only 2 on the roster and one that might not be available to start the season and most assuredly won't be himself when he makes it back on the field. I fully expect a running back to be drafted too.

Nothing wrong with having an extra camp body. Hilliard has some nice size, maybe he can be a short yardage power back. Gerhart has failed in that role, and we dont know how ready Peterson truly will be come week 1. Id prefer if MN goes the RB route, to bring someone in like Justin Forsett who can be a third down back and return man, but this signing isnt something that is worth getting worked up about or over analyzing.

Eh. I can't fathom any one with a trace amount of common sense and realistic expectations being disappointed in the signing either. I guess that explains why the forum is disappointed though.

I was anticipating a signing like this, a vet RB in case Peterson isn't ready Week 1.

Week 1 RB depth chart with a healthy Peterson: Peterson, Gerhart, Todman/King/rookie

Week 1 RB depth chart without a healthy Peterson: Gerhart, Hiliard, Todman/King/rookie

Hilliard is a tough runner that can play FB with his size. He filled in as a two part back when Ronnie got injured a year ago with Ricky and played well. He can play a nice role on any offense and has a great attitude. Nothing special but not a bad signing with the questions at RB.

Why are people bashing this? He probably isn't even going to make the roster. Just a camp body. Should we bash Spielman every time he signs someone to compete in camp that isn't an All Pro or first round pick?

Beat me to it.

Let me try another tack..... sarcasm this time....

Did you who are disappointed and complaining expect the Vikings to sign someone of Barry Sander's talent as a Free Agent?

Wouldn't shock me if they brought him in to try him as a FB. D'Imperio is average at best and Matt Asiata has never been known as a blocker.

No one is bashing anything, but should we jump for joy tho? Really? I would be lying if I said I like the signing. It's a 'meh' signing to me.

Combine this with the 'CB' we just acquired, it just seems like we've done nothing to improve the 3-13 team yet. Carlson and two gambles.

Have we already started the search for camp bodies with high chances of being cut?

Sounds like me have our priorities in order

I think we may have brought him in to compete as a FB with D'Imperio.

While D'Imperio was solid last year, if you throw Hilliard back there you have another potential playmaker. From what Dolphin fans are saying he is an average receiver. If utilized correctly you could have a guy like Leonard Weaver who was an average run blocker but a very solid underneath option.
