| I like Bannan as a back up but I think Aubrayo Franklin and Amobi Okoye are better. This makes 2 off seasons in a row that the Broncos have decided not to show any interest in Franklin. Frankly speaking, Aubrayo is probably better than any DT we presently have on the team even with his sub par season with the Saints. |

Well, if Aubrayo is so much better, why'd he only get a 1-yr deal from the Saints last year, and why haven't they attempted to resign him this year ?? He'd probably have jumped at the deal Bunkley got from them ..... guess that offer wasn't extended to him...wonder why ?? _________________

I guess the sole barometer for measuring how good a DT is if he isnt resigned by his previous team or given a significant contract? Guess those that have been wanting us to sign Okoye are out of luck since Chicago didnt even offer him a minimum contract.
Just 2 years ago Franklin was hit with the franchise tag. He has been a solid player most of his career. Pray tell, which of our defensive tackles would you say is better than Franklin? Just because Franklin wasn't extended by the Saints doesn't mean he can't be a viable contributor for us. After all Bannan wasn't offered an extension either and we seem to have interest in him. If Bannan can help us why not Franklin? Don't think many would argue Bannan is better than Franklin. |

| Isn't Amobi Okoye down to three teams? The Broncos, Bucs, and Bengals? I know he isn't great, but for the right price.... |

| Brings me back to my original question. I wonder why EXF have shown no interest in Franklin over the past couple seasons while going after other defensive tackles many think are inferior to him. I suspect there might be a non-football related reason otherwise makes no sense. He will not cost much to sign and is not looking for a long term deal and no draft picks needed to get him. |

Correct me if I'm wrong, IIRC I heard that Franklin played poor at times last year. Not sure if it's true, just from what I've heard. I didn't watch him play much at all last year.
I'm all for getting Franklln at this point though. He is a decent run stopper, but offers little to nothing in pass rush. I think he can be a decent stop gap. _________________ Broncos-Bulls-Cubs-CU-Blackhawks |

Franklin was playing out of his mind his last few years with SF. He also had talent surrounding him but he was playing very good. The reason he was playing very good is because he wanted money. His 1 year contract with the saints for chump change probably pissed him off, since it was one of the better offers he got.
Im not even sure if i would want to add him. Then again its not like theres much left on the market. |

On NFL.com it says the Bengals dealt Rivers to the Giants for a 5th. The opportunity has passed now but at least I hope we gave the trade consideration and rejected it for other reasons than the asking price because for a 5th I wish we would have gotten him. _________________

Anyone know what is going on with Mario Haggan?
A solid back up who played well for us when Von missed playing time. A good pro on and off the field. I would think he could be brought back for a one year deal for near vet minimum. A curious decision in my view. |

There is still a handful of FA DT who could at the least contribute in a rotation here in Denver:
Aubrayo Franklin, Rocky Bernard, Fred Robbins, Anthony Adams (less than the others) are all older 30+ DT who could easily start.
Nate Collins/Demario Pressley are both young and have experience with Del Rio and Fox respectively.
Tommie Harris - To me he is the most intriguing player. Sure he hasn't really done anything since 08/09 but Tommie Harris was very elite in his day. And he isn't all that old at 28. He provides a good pass-rush when he is healthy and trying and could be a great addition to the team. _________________

As of today (April 17th) my tracking has 4 unsigned veterans:
Brian Dawkins
Mario Haggan
Russ Hochstein
Marcus Thomas
My guess is that Haggan and Hochstein will sign. Dawkins might return for one more year. Thomas is holding out for a multi-year contract but might take the one-year contract that the team is offering him. |
