Realistically, I like the idea Keyser presented of trading Ells + for Elvis Andrus. Besides the fact that Andrus is an awesome player, he also seems like the kind of guy who would be great in the clubhouse and keep guys loose. If Hamilton leaves the Rangers I could see this becoming a very realistic possibility.

I wonder if the rumored deadline blockbuster involving Ells, Beckett, and Shoppach was indeed for Andrus.

Man I would hate if the Rangers got Ellsbury...

He'd be perfect for them, honestly. I'd love to keep him, but unless he accepts a similar deal to Adam Jones, I would look to trade him. We can't have too many huge contracts and he'll likely command $100MM-plus.

Dave Martinez or John Farrell and I'm happy.

I really want him on the M's. One of my favorite players and would fit perfectly in CF at SafeCo.

It did seem like Lester was at his best with Farrell as pitching coach.

If you could go back in time knowing what we know now, would you resign Adrian Beltre instead of trading for AGon?

Beltre signed a 5/$80MM deal compared to AGon's 7/$154MM

We'd still have Anthony Rizzo to cover 1B and Casey Kelly (who should be making his debut next year). Of course we'd lose Blake Swihart and Jackie Bradley, who we got with the comp picks from the Rangers.

Fun to think about. I love Adrian Beltre, but I think I'd still go the AGon route.

Seriously? I would go the Beltre route for sure. Then you have Kelly and Middlebrooks as trade bait for a good starter.

It's pretty tough.

Rizzo - Pedroia - Shortstop X - Beltre

Vs

AGon - Pedroia - Shortstop X - Middlebrooks

With an outfield of Crawford/Ellsbury/Right Fielder X

I picked the Agon scenario because I really love Jackie Bradley. We'd probably resign Ells in the Beltre scenario and be able to flip WMB for a pitcher as you mentioned. The more I think about it, the more I like the Beltre alternate timeline. It's tough.
