What do you guys think of Rhett "The Machine" Ellison or DeAngelo Peterson. I know we are looking at CB with our next pick but we have a solid group with the need to add one for competition. I feel the TE group needs the same maybe to more of a degree. Ellison's Dad donned the silver and black as well. CBSsports thinks Ellison compares well to Joel Dreesen. FB/TE type. Might be interesting.
I see a few CB's that would make good competition come Training Camp but only the above mentioned be worthwhile at TE. _________________

Who do you have for our next 2 picks (both today)? I won't be around for the first one, not sure about the 2nd.
I think we could use another LB and a 3-4 NT. Or we could just go BPA.
Trade down from one of the 2? |

I would be in favor of trading down. But I really think we should look at Rhett Ellison. He would easily provide what Richard Gordon brings to a larger extent with better pass catching abilities. Wilber and Massaquoi (to a lesser degree) can fill in the LB roles. We still have Goethel and McKenzie said he doesn't see a whole lot of talent at the LB position in the later rounds. I would follow Reggie's thinking and look at NT and TE. DeAngelo Tyson and Tydreke Powell are solid NT prospects. Rhett Ellison would be my pick. I mean Mass was a great pick and all but where does he exactly fit in with the acquisition of Dave Tollefson, probably going to back up the Sam backer and SP Teams more then be a Down Lineman. We aren't going to have 9 linemen suiting up on Sundays. And of course there are injuries but for now I think we should balance this team out a bit and look at TE.
Never mind Ellison was picked by the hawks. Damn, looks like we will have the worst TE group in the league next year. Thats not going to help our running game or 3rd down conversions. Oh well, I wouldn't trade down I think we should target one of those remaining NT's. Terrell Manning is available, I believe, and rated pretty high as an outside backer. _________________

We drafted two late round TE's last year, so I don't see what adding another late round guy will do to be honest.
NT is my 1# priority now, I agree.
What do our BBs look like for that?
1) Jaye Howard
2) DeAngelo Tyson
3) Tydreke Powell _________________

I don't like any TE there. We could use a pick on one and it still wouldn't improve our group.
Massaquoi isn't a 4-3 OLB. Wilber is a SAM in the 4-3. There are some WILL making sense with our next pick, Manning and Hoffman Ellis. But i'm always looking at front 7 player who could make the switch to a 3-4 in the future. Those 2 probably can't. They can be nickel LBs though.
Miles Burris can play in both schemes but SD will pick him just before we're OTC.
The #1 guy on my board is DT Jaye Howard. We have 2 30+ starters at DT so even if Howard isn't a true NT he might be worth it at this point (he can play 4-3 NT and 3-4 DE). Thing is i'd still pick a 3-4 NT with our next pick to compete wit Travis Ivey. Knowing that, can we go DT with our last 2 picks?
All that being said, i'd go
#184
1.Terrell Manning WLB
2.Alex Hoffman Ellis WLB
3.Jaye Howard DT
#189
3-4 NT (i've got 2 guys in mind, i'll PM you who they are).
Btw, here's our current depth chart:

Thomas Austin might be a reasonable addition to that trade, as he fits the ZBS nicely.
All are guys who probably won't make the Texans roster though.

Competition? Isn't that the point. We have 6 CB's on our roster yet we took a 5th rounder? Anyway its in the past. I really stressed the need at TE but you guys like what we have.
Not big on Howard, he has durability issues and has been a huge disappointment in Florida. Underclassmen consistently out performed him. Plus he doesn't have a lot of room to put on weight.
I like DeAngelo Tyson and Tydreke Powell. I would prefer Powell to Tyson. _________________

No one was around to make the pick and Terrell Manning is the Best Player Available. Didn't like his decision to go pro but it works out for us landing him this late in the draft. Very athletic and has the skills set to rush the passer or drop in coverage. That versatility will do nicely for our defensive depth and adds another + SP teamer. _________________

Good pick with Manning, think our LBers have really good depth now. NT is the only 'concern' area left IMO. We could dangle a future pick for Ben Watson from the Browns if you liked? Would add a solid starter to our TE group. _________________

Obviously competition is everything and no players are set in stone but I would envision our front 7 looking like this.
RE- Shaughnessy, Tollefson
NT- Kelly, Seymour, Ivey
UT- Seymour, Houston
LE- Bryant, Massaquoi
WB- Curry, Manning
MB- McClain, Goethel, Curry
SB- Wheeler, Wilber
That is a pretty sexy front 7 for our 4-3. Gets pretty debatable how the 3-4 could look. But I like this front 7 for the next year. Would have been nice to add another centerpiece NT but no need to reach. I put Wheeler at Sam because that is where Allen said he envisioned him due to his run defense and his ability to rush the passer in college. _________________

I would be down for that. Sorry to make the pick no one was around and I believe we were something like 30 minutes past our pick.
Went with our BPA which was mutual. _________________
