I was ready to take Donta Hightower to replace DeMeco Ryans, but then noticed that another quality pass rusher has slipped, so I decided to replace Mario Williams (sort of)
with the 26th pick the Houston Texans select Whitney Mercilus, DE/OLB, Illinois[/i] |

| Baltimore selects LB Dont'a Hightower, Alabama. He can start on the outside and move inside if Ray Lewis ever decides to get old. |

With the 31st pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, the New England Patriots select:
Janoris Jenkins, CB, North Alabama
With McCourty's regression last year, a premier corner is definitely a need in NE. And given the relationship between Urban Meyer and Bill Belichick, few teams will have a better feel for his off-field issues. Two picks with very high upside with Brockers and Jenkins - can they live up to expectations? |

The Giants always go BPA regardless of need (see Prince last year or JPP the year before). In this draft they are looking at some good value with Devon Still and Kendall Reyes, but not far behind his great value and need. Jacobs is gone and Bradshaw is hurt, so running back depth is an issue in New York. The more I read about this guy the more he is Ray Rice 2.0. The Birds better get their run D issues fixed.
with the 32nd selection in the first round the New York Giants select Doug Martin RB Boise State
Now on to round 2! Very interesting 1st round and some great value left on the board for round 2. |

This is the perfect scenario for the Colts. In the rebuilding stage, they are going to focus on one side of the ball at the start of the draft. Getting Luck in round 1, they need to get a weapon for Luck. They lost Dallas Clark and Jacob Tamme so TE is a big need. The #1 TE is still on the board and he just happens to have caught passes from Luck in college.
with the 34th selection the Indianapolis Colts select Coby Fleener TE Stanford[/i] |

| The Colts would absolutely sprint to the podium with the Fleener pick if it fell that way.... |

Yep - best need/value combo so far, plus the teammates in college thing.
I also liked the Dontari Poe pick - adds a lot (of weight!) to the run D there and with Bunkley leaving it's a big hole. Also Fletcher Cox and Mike Adams were good value.
Most surprising was Upshaw to CLE and Lewis going as high as 28. |

Offensive line looks to be getting pushed up DT are getting pushed down.
Lots of good DT's on the board Stills, Reyes and Worthy
Also I am really surprised the Randle went before Hill and Jeffery. |

With the 36th pick of the 2012 NFL Draft, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers select:
Lavonte David, OLB, Nebraska
Several players got looks here (Wagner, Still, Wilson, Brown) - but if they intend to leave Foster at MLB, then David is an excellent fit on the weakside. While his upside isn't as high as Brown, I like LBers with good instincts who can play faster than they time - and David fits that to a tee. An improvement in tackling and coverage is definitely necessary with Carolina, New Orleans and Atlanta all featuring strong running attacks and good tight ends. |
