Great analysis.

I would predict he drafts one of the SEC corners first (if available) and then takes a WR in the 2nd. Either Hill, Jeffery, or Randle, if any are available.

The issue I see with the SEC Corners is the Gilmore is rising fast and is likely a top 15 guy. Claiborne will be long gone and Kirkpatrick has some drug issues and the early draft picks have tended to be pretty clean cut guys.

That and CB in the 2nd seems to be his preferred route. 5 CB's in the analysis above, four of them were in the 2nd round. Two from Va Tech, two from the SEC.

A Va Tech Corner in the 2nd round seems like it "fits" and that is what they would get with Jayron Hosley.

I see what you're saying. i just think that Hill and Randle would both be a reach at 19, whereas the corners (if they're available) wouldn't. There is also Janoris Jenkins but he's got major character flaws too, but he's a wildcard. He's got the talent for the first round.

I think there's a good chance one of those 3 WR's I mentioned will last to the 2nd, and could be there for our pick. It just seems like the values of the players in this draft would have Emery go CB 1st and WR 2nd...but, you never know how it will play out and it could go the other way too.

I think Hill and Randle are nice fall back options.

If things do not look good at 19 and you do not like the defensive talent you can move down and get a nice value in the late 1st.

I just fear that the Bears at 19 are sitting on the edge of the talent we really want.

The one player that has grown on me over the last month or so is Rueben Randle. He is pretty smooth and athletic. He also runs good routes. He didn't really get to showcase everything because of shoddy QB play from Jefferson but I think he would be a nice #2 across from Marshall. I like the idea of taking a DE @ 19, preferably Perry or Coples if he falls and taking Randle in the 2nd. I am still high on taking Floyd if he is there @ 19 but I doubt it as he has shot up imo to a top 13 pick in the last month. I also think we can still get a good value OL in the 3rd round.

I agree with your last statement. At 19 you have players with upside, but also risk. You are further away from the "sure things" (even though those don't exist) or the potentially dominant players. You really have to do your homework in the middle of this round to make sure you get a player who plays like a 1st rounder should.

I don't agree with your second statement. Everyone just assumes you can trade down a few spots and pick up a 3rd rounder or something. But who's to say there's someone who wants to TRADE UP? 19 is not a very desirable pick, and teams wanting to trade up will want to give up as little as possible. It will be hard to strike a deal. It's not like there's some "drafting outlet store" where you can trade your picks in for more mid round picks and a later 1st rounder. You have to find an actual trade partner and there's no guarantee you will find one and be able to strike the right deal.

Call me crazy(or insane) but I've been thinking we should trade down a few spots to the 20s and pick up an extra 3rd and pick:

1) DT Jerel Worthy
2) DE Vinny Curry
3a WR/O-line
3b WR/O-line

Help out our D-line(even D in general) with our first 2 picks, then help Cutler with our 2 3rd rounders(if we made a trade that gives us an extra 3rd)

after that we can go CB, LB, safety, TE

IMO we hit a lot of our needs and areas we need to add depth

Good idea, bad idea, I need my head examined?

That is the tough part finding the partner that wants to move up, originally I thought that Tannehill would be a trade chip before Cleveland at 22, but that was ruined.

What is more realistic is to pick DE Nick Perry at 19.

And then move back up, which is far more common, and pick a player like Hill or Randle.

It would cost our 2nd and our 3rd, but I would have no problem with Emery being aggressive to fill a hole with a 1st round talent.

That is something that is much more realistic and I could get on board with that too.

I understand the trade down theory, but why does it have to be defense 1st? If we go Jeffery/Hill we would solidify our offense with one pick and then we can go heavy defense the rest of the draft. V. Curry brings just as much potential as N. Perry/W.Mercilus. We give Cutler the weapons we need and still add youthful talent to our defense. As much as we have played GB tough and held them below their point avg, we still have to put points on the board. 1 offensive pick turns our offense into a strength instead of it just being formidable. Hill or Jeffery would open up the entire field for Cutler to use.

LOL. I guess my point in the last post wasn't made.

Who do you plan on trading down with?

There are some fringe 1st round QB prospects that I could see teams moving up for though 19 is a pretty big jump for most of the teams who need QBs. Outside of that most trade ups seem to target DE and OL, both of which are needs for us too, so I'm not sure those are trades we would make even if they were available.

The most recent mock I did had denver trading up with us to go after a DT, which happens to be a really big need for them.

How do other people feel about trading back up into the late 1st or early 2nd to secure another starting calibre player?

To many needs IMO to give up picks…I would prefer to move down in the 2nd round and pick up an extra pick or a 2013 draft pick…I feel there are a lot of potential 2nd rounders who are similar in terms of talent.

That seemed like a lot more of a possibility before we traded the extra #3 away in the Marshall deal.

The only way I see us trading up from 50 is if we trade back in the 1st round first. If we trade back from 19 to 25 as bkokot suggested and gained an extra 3rd in the deal, I could then see us potentially packaging our 2nd and a 3rd to target a specific player in the late 1st/early 2nd and still leave ourselves with a 3rd rounder, or maybe even packaging the two 3rd rounders together to move up into the late 2nd/early 3rd. I would absolutely be on board with something like that.
