With a particularly slow power market this morning, i've time on my hands. So here goes.

Ultimately, more a vision of what I'd like, rather than expected, as I certainly don't have the foresight or experience to second guess EXF.

While its certainly plausible that the FO will pick up a QB, I am vehemently against this. Lets build a team that will allow a premium draft prospect to come right in and work with, rather than wasting one on the proverbial wet dream of a developmental prospect.

So, to the draft...

*Trade*

#25 for #'s 42, 74 and 187

I'm hoping, for Miami's sake, that they don't panic and take a punt at Tannehill at #8. I understand the need, but Moore can hold the fort and the risk/return is too great for my appetite. Opting for the mercurial Floyd instead, they see value in Osweiler - value that i'm not sure that I see - and make a pretty good value move. Their fortunes change, as do ours.

Pick #42
Reyes, DT

Seemingly with the potential to slip into the back end of the first, Reyes would be fine value here. With Brockers, Cox, Worthy and Poe gone, he makes perfect sense. Quite the explosive athlete, Reyes would be the first part in the rebuild of our interior line. Perhaps not the lane-clogger we might be after, but has the speed to develop into a pass-rusher, so it seems.

Pick #57
Thompson, DT

We get the beast in the middle that we're looking for. In all likelyhood, a 2-down player, but solidifies the run D. Will be some stiff competition for him, as he, arguably, fits in both the 3-4 and the 4-3.

Pick #74
Jones, C

Maybe a marginal reach, but not a marginal need. Granted, Walton was done no favours by the ad-lib nature of last years offensive game, but he has shown little improvement since his rookie year.

Pick #89
Turbin, RB

Again, maybe a marginal reach but a legit need. Nice size and following a solid year at Utah State, would be given a real chance to suceed under Fox.

Pick #109
Bergstrom, OT/OG

Good things come in threes, so here's a third marginal reach. Its time we made sure that we're protecting our investment in Manning. Has started for the past three years, primarily at right tackle, Tony seems to be thought capable of slipping inside to guard. With Kuper's status unknown, nice to have a brute with versatility and starting potential.

Pick #121
Bradham, OLB

Wishful thinking that one of the most experienced draft prospects falls to us, but stranger things have happened. Somewhat lost in coverage, the hard hitter may not be the ideal replacement for DJ but with his years of experience at FSU, he could certainly step in and hold the fort.

Pick #130
Wright, WR

A case of intellectual theft; pinched from someone elses mock, Manning gets himself a crisp route runner.

Pick #178
Harris, CB/KR

Time to take a bit of a flyer. Maybe the former duck can be kept on the straight and narrow, as there is clearly come talent there. Worth a shot and provides reasonable corner depth and a nice option on returns.

Pick #187
Lindsey, DE/OLB

A pedestrian 4.78 40 time hasn't helped his stock. But you can never have too many pass rushers, even if a 6th round isn't expected to contribute much, if anything at all.

PFAs

Keenum, QB

For those who want a "developmental" QB, here you go. Can't get more of a project.

Long, OT

Jake's kid brother with the gargantuan wingspan (>2m!), who held his own in the East-West Shrine. Worth a punt.

I'd love it if this were to happen. Your 1st 5 would contribute, if not start year #1.

I'd probably look for a CB to develo[p rather than a WR though. I kind of have the feeling we're just "renting" Porter for a year and will look for his replacement in the draft.

I'd like to think that they're not beyond the realms of possibility either.

Would probably beg to differ on the corner front; Manning no doubt enjoys the polished route runners and while we now have Stokely in the fold, an heir apparent would be a nice addition. All about helping Manning, rather than the skilled side of the D.

Would look to one of the top-tier cb talents in next years draft for the legit heir apparent to Champ.

This is exactly what a few of us have been saying all along. Address the trenches, Big Time. Reyes and Thompson will both be available to help immediately. We have a couple of Veterans in Vickerson and Warren who can mentor these young DTs, presuming the vets can stay healthy.

And Denver has a long, successful history of grabbing Centers who project to Guard. So you cover your keester when you finally realize that Kuper is a long, long way (if ever) from playing a football game. Personally I think Blake and Brewster are better athletes than Jones. But, just going by the Photo, I'd love for that guy to be on our team. Same goes for Bergstrom.

And, clearly everybody is falling in love with Turbin as immediate help for McGahee. And, of course, who could fault someone from "across the pond" for choosing an OLB whose 1st name is "Nigel". From what I understand, Nigel is exceptional in "Man" coverage, as well as being an agressive tackler. And I like Wright, Harris, and Lindsey.

Great effort, with the proper focus on the "trenches", from my perspective.

+1

Im also on board with assessing the trenches in this draft. Seems like the right one to do it also.
