Does Nash fix the PP?

Or will that hinder on Richards another year of chemistry with the team and MDZ getting better.

I expect he will help. Natural goal scorer with soft hands, but has the ability to power to the net when he wants to. I am not sure why Torts didn't use Richards on the point on the PP last year. He used him on the half-boards almost all of last year. Put Richards and DZ together at the points. Nash and Gaborik on the sides and Callahan in front. Our PP issues have been going on for a long time and it would be great if they were finally fixed.

We re-signed D Anton Stralman to a 2 year totaling $3.4 million. I really liked the contributions that Anton made for the team last year. Glad to hear that he will be back.

Didn't like him at first. But he was "good" on the PP for what we needed. He actually shot the puck and it led to a few goals and some chances. He's fairly young too. I like it.

So do you guys think the lockout will really hurt us with guys like Richards, Gaborik and Nash getting a year older?

Unquestionably, losing 1 year in our window of contention sucks bad. Figures the league locks out again when we finally put together a Stanley Cup contending team.

Schedule is out. We open up next Saturday in Boston. Good test for the team right away. It is important to get off to a quick start with a shortened season. Sucks that camp is going to be less than a week, so a lot of guys are going to have to mesh during regular season games. That could possibly result in some clunkers, especially trying to incorporate Rick Nash into the team. Nash has apparently been skating with Richards and Gaborik a lot in informal skating sessions. Maybe that will help some.

MDZ is no longer a RFA. He signed a new deal for 2 years at $5.1 million total. Good to have him locked up and have him start camp on time.

We don't look to be all there just yet, which I guess is somewhat expected. Boston played a good game and was better than us. Still 47 more to go.

Lundqvist did make one really magnificent save in the third period to keep it close. Still, I know he can do better overall. Power play was punchless tonight.

Gabby hat trick earns us all three points. Very important for us to get that first win and end the losing start. We still have a lot to work on. I really like the way we started the game off fast too. Good end-to-end game.

Pretty pitiful game for us. Henke kept us in it, but we could not muster any kind of consistent offensive pressure. Flyers had the puck more and had a lot more chances than us. Pyatt scored again, but that was about all that our offense got tonight. And both goals against were the result of careless defensive play.

That 2 minute 5-on-3 followed by a regular PP for an additional 1:45 should have been where we took the bull by the horns, but instead, we folded and we pretty much lost the game there. We need to get on track badly because these first four games were not impressive from us.

That's more like it. 1st period, we were somewhat unlucky to not score at all given the shot disparity. Poor defense led to both of Toronto's goals in the 1st period. We've cleaned it up since then and we started finding the back of the net. Gaborik has been immense and Staal and Del Zotto have done well on both ends of the ice. I like how they have combined as a pairing this season. Gaborik, Richards, and Nash are an incredible line as they are not only all very talented players, but they have been combining well together. Pretty impressive considering the lack of a substantial training camp.

PP still needs a ton of work. Our work there is not acceptable and needs to be better going forward. It's not like we don't have the personnel to run a good PP.

We signed veteran C Jason Arnott to a one year deal today too. Some nice veteran experience at C for a bottom line.

Solid win over the Flyers. Lundqvist had a good game and our PK was sharp. Killing off a 5-on-3 in the 2nd period was huge for us as Ryan Callahan ended up eventually scoring the game winner on the power play that immediately followed the kill. Not good marking at all on Timonen when he fired in their only goal. Nash was very noticeable in the offensive zone tonight. He was very involved and he helped make that goal for Callahan.

Bad news is that Callahan had to leave the game with a shoulder injury. Severity of the injury is not yet known, but he did not return to the game. I am fearing a potentially serious injury. Hope to hear on that soon.
