|
|
|
Last mock will come the day before the draft.
Now that we know where we stand going into the draft, I have an idea of how this could go.
Round 1, Pick 25:
Denver trades pick #25 and pick #87 to the St. Louis Rams for #33 and #39 in the 2012 NFL drafts.
I think this is actually a feasible trade and allows the Rams to add an impact player who falls to 25.
Denver would like to acquire more picks to stockpile talent in Round 2.
#33
Devon Still, DT, PSU
I think he'll be here and I think it's an incredibly smart pick given the situation. I would love to see it because I think Still is getting overlooked big time now. He plays high sometimes but he can be a valuable player.
#39
Janoris Jenkins, CB, North Alabama
He's gonna slip because of his character issues, but I think he's absolutely worth the risk. Big time talent, just needs the right locker room around him. He gets that in Denver.
#57
Brandon Thompson, DT, Clemson
I think he's another DT that is getting overlooked big time and I'd love to grab him here. Paired with Still, we get two nice young DTs, and Jenkins is a nice piece of secondary youth.
Round 4
#108
Russell Wilson, QB, Wisconsin
I think the way the board falls makes it unlikely we grab Osweiler, because the talent that we need is sitting there. I think Elway may like Osweiler but he will love Wilson.
#120
Terrance Gannaway, RB, Baylor
We may sacrifice a chance at a better back, but Gannaway, while he lacks breakaway speed is no slouch. He'll be a good compliment to the backs on the roster.
Round 5
#137
David Molk, C, Michigan
I can see Molk being the pick here. He's not Peter Konz, but he might be better than JD Walton now. He's a pretty smart dude from all indications, I think he'll do well and provide depth at worst.
Round 6
#188
Dwight Jones, WR, UNC
We've been looking at this guy pretty close from all indications. I don't know if he lasts this long, but with the questions around him, it wouldn't surprise me. Since it's our last pick, I think we take a bit of a chance and hopefully strike it rich.
Let me know what you all think _________________

I like it! That would be a great trade for us, not sure how likely it is though. We could end up getting a steal in the 2nd with Jenkins. He's as talented as anyone, just has character issues. Could be our future #1. _________________ Broncos-Bulls-Cubs-CU-Blackhawks |

| I really love this draft, with the exception of Gannaway. I don't think he's going to be that special and might even end up being converted to FB. I'd rather swap the Wilson pick for a RB and grab Turbin... But even still, I would be elated with this draft. |

Not a huge fan of trading into the 2nd simply because of Fox's history in the draft with 2nd rounders. I know he didn't have final say in Carolina - and doesn't here - but the 2nd rounders in the Fox in Carolina days didn't work out so often. _________________

I'm not sure the exact statistic but it's something like 50% of players drafted in the 2nd round aren't on the team that drafted them 3 years down the road.
Basically it's a crapshoot. I agree to keep the 1st rounder. Also Jenkins won''t slide that far because of character issues. When EVERYONE wants a prospect in the 2nd round...odds are he goes in the 1st. _________________

I'm 75% certain Jenkins won't go Round 1 unless someone takes him at the bottom of round one. _________________

I dont like Still and I dont think Jenkins will be there. IMO, theirs a better chance of Poe being at 33 than Jenkins being at 39.
Other than that, its a great draft. Gannaway reminds me a bit of Mike Anderson. |

I think the trade is reasonable and feasible.
And I LOVE the first three picks. Still, Jenkins and Thompson are all starting-caliber players from day 1 and would fill major needs for us. But not one would be "forced" into a starting job as the DL is going to be a rotational unit and we have Champ and Porter who are proven players at CB so Jenkins could battle with Porter for the #2 CB spot in camp and the preseason.
As I said in another thread, Jenkins is a player I like A LOT and one who I think has the potential to be an elite CB. Problem is his character concerns and EXF's desire for a clean image make him an unlikely choice for us. I'd be happy with us taking him, especially in the scenario you lay out in this mock, broncos67.
Finally, as I've said in other threads tonight, I have soured on the idea of taking a QB. While I'm not wild about Caleb Hanie and Adam Weber as our only backups, I think it'd be a waste of a pick to take a QB this year. Everyone says, myself included up until a few weeks ago, to get a QB in the middle-to-late rounds to develop behind Peyton for a few years. Problem is, Peyton takes 99% of the snaps in practice - and will need to this year being on a new team, in a different scheme and with a new surrounding cast - so what is said rookie "developmental" QB going to do? Secondly, rookies get a 4-year contract and there's a good chance Peyton plays here for four more years. Thus when Peyton retires and our rookie QB's time has come, he's a free agent who we know nothing about since he hasn't played and has barely practiced.
I think there's a good chance we do take a QB and someone like Wilson is a very real option. I just don't think it would be a good idea and EXF come around to my way of thinking before it's too late. If they're not comfortable with Hanie and Weber, sign a veteran journeyman after the draft.
That said, I love this mock. Excellent job! _________________ big_palooka:

| Love the trade down. I would grab Still, Zeitler, and Lamar Miller with those 2nd round picks though. Then Mike Martin in the 4th. |

That was the one pick I was iffy about. He probably will be, but you never know with OL guys. I've seen plenty of centers in past years go later than projected. _________________

Like that you picked up a center, although i'd be inclined to agree with BP.
Switch Wilson with Ben Jones, use the 5th on some more OLine bodies and consider me sold. |

| That'd be a great trade. I'm also warming to the idea of a CB pretty high. The more I think about it it seems we're just renting Porter for 1 year. |
