Heard multiple people on NFL Network and sports center say niners are very interested in him with their first pick. Thoughts

I told myself I wouldn't let a Baalke pick surprise me, but this one would. This would make the Jacobs signing look idiotic. Smokescreen IMO.

Or maybe hoping someone leaps us to draft him.

What if the Brandon Jacobs signing was only smokescreen to make it seem we weren't interested in taking a RB to ensure no one jumps in front of us? Shocked

How would the Jacobs signing be idiotic? Jacobs is a 1 year stop gap signing, and he was brought in to mainly be a power back. He may not even make the team this year. RB's don't have high shelf lives but he could contribute for 6-8 years (same timeframe as Gore, his 8th year coming up).

I'm not a big fan of drafting runningbacks early and Turbin hasn't showed me enough in video of watched on him (Youtube). Martin I absolutely love, I think he's gonna be a star in the league and a 3 down back....the perfect replacement to Gore as Hunter can compliment him as well. The only other guy I'd be happy with is David Wilson, but not until the 2nd. After that we'd have to get good value on a RB for me to be happy taking one, Turbin I wouldn't want to touch til at least the 4th

I hope it is a smokescreen. The number of successful first round rbs that are starting right now are low. The only two at the top of my head are AP and CJ2k.

I like Martin as a prospect, but it would be completely idiotic to pick him in the first round. OT or OG,WR, DE, CB, S, C, NT are more pressing needs. Hunter looked good and i'm of the opinion you don't replace someone until they've failed and Hunter did anything but that. And I know the response will be "Oh but hunter is not an every down back" I really don't care. Plenty of teams have platooned the RB position and done fine. Unless you have 0 running game, you should not be spending first round picks on running backs.

Sjax, McCoy, Mojo is practically a first( I think he was a real early second rounder). Beanie if he is healthy is pretty good. Marshawn Lynch is another,

you're right though, RB's tend to be in the minority

If you think about it, it's really a smart and not to out of the norm possibility because the signing could work as a backup plan as well as a smoke screen.

It's probably not the true reasoning they signed Jacobs, but to me it's not that farfetched to say that maybe they brought him in as a smokescreen/backup plan, especially when you look at how much interest we have shown in RB's so far. If we hadn't of signed Jacobs then it would be obvious that we want a RB with how many we've brought in, yet by signing him all of us have written off the idea of drafting another RB even though we don't even like Jacobs in the first place.
