I think that's a great signing for the Vikes.

Like others have said if it does not work out, than it's only a 1 year deal.

See, this kind of logic escapes me. What's stopping us from signing him to a 20 year deal and then cutting him after training camp this year?

He's not going to get enough guaranteed money from anyone to buy a little Zig Zag. Any deal is a "one year deal" with any player. It's just the deals with massive amounts of guaranteed money that make them unlikely to be cut after one year. Players get cut all the time before their contract is up.

I look at the one year deal as a weakness to the deal. It means we really don't have much confidence in him.

Sorry if I come across as harsh, but I've seen what weed does to people so I have a harsh opinion about it. Don't want to detour the discussion, just saying that's where I'm at.

I'll second that. It's really difficult to write out a post that sounds dead serious and yet have me rolling on the floor...

Thanks guys! I figured I was tightroping the rules with that one but seemed worth a shot.

To butcher a Mighty Ducks line, "$2 million? well worth it."

Deal includes $800k signing bonus, $900k roster bonus, $250k workout bonus.

Jerome Simpson said Wednesday he knows he still has to prove to his new teammates and coaches, as well as everyone else in the NFL that he deserves to be in the league.

Simpson: "Everybody knows that that wasn't my character, what happened, and it's basically just prove it. You can talk all you want to, but if you don't prove it, it really doesn't mean a hill of beans. It's absolutely a 'prove it' season just because the nature of that I did get in trouble last year. I have to prove to the league, myself and everybody else out there that I deserve to be in this league."

"That wasn't my characteristics and just that I'm a good guy, love the community, love kids and everything and I just made poor decision."

^^ keep in mind with Simpson being suspended for four games, the Vikes don't have to pay him for those.

that amounts to over $115,000.

In spite of the pending legal situation, Simpson posted career highs last season with 50 receptions for 725 yards and four touchdowns. He penciled in as the starter at the split-end position once he's served his three-game ban.

According to the article, it is a 3-game suspension.

What a waste...I think they only did it to keep the press interested all season in the Vikings. Because now in every game he plays they're going to constantly show "The Flip-over" even though he will be putting up little to no real stats at all in the game.

Well someone is a negative nancy... I mean, look at your name!

I think Simpson is an upgrade over all of our recievers other than Harvin, and that is a plus rather than a minus to me. He has plenty of potential, and if not a future #2, he will at least be a player who could be a high level contributor, and a darn good #3. Don't set high expectations for him this year, but also don't be surprised if he isn't far behind the lead on the team for recieving yeards.
