Apparently Cam Cameron believes that Michael Oher is finally putting it together and maturing into a great player so far this offseason.
This early in the program one has to wonder how much of this is reality and how much is just the normal offseason blind hype we hear about some players from time to time.
The part in the article that mentions how Oher has been "good" up until this point leads me to believe its just air. I've seen nothing better than an above average player since Oher's "good" rookie season.
So I ask hype or hope? What do you guys think? _________________

The fact that Cam is quoted as saying
| Quote: | | I think he is really starting to mature into a great player. He has always been really, really good |
leads me to agree with your verdict of "hype".
I do hope ( ) its true though _________________

I'd love to believe that Oher is "maturing" to be a great player, but when Cam says that he's always been really, really good then I know it's just hype.
Oher went from great his rookie year, to horrible his sophomore year to slightly average last year, so I mean I just hope for some dang consistency this year. _________________

On the flip side, let's not act like talent just disappears. We all remember what he showed us in 2009. If he can get his head straight it's not unreasonable to expect a resurgence. _________________

I'd love to see a return of '09 Oher. I just knew he was the second coming even though he was on the right side. That play he had on the Skins player in the pre-season got me so hype for that boy, haha. _________________

Yeah, the problem has never been physical talent. If he can get past the mental issues, then he could be "really, really good". That's what Cam should have said. I really don't think it's just air, but it was poor wording by Cam. Obviously he just sees that Oher is finally putting it together at least in practice so now we have to wait and see how he does in actual games. He sees progress, nonetheless, so it's a good sign. |

| Oher's career trajectory is steadily going downhill. Now, the fatass Bryant McKinnie is the first option at LT. Pretty soon, they will try Oher at LG. Face it, first round O-linemen who allegedly are only starting to show something to the coaches going into their 4th NFL season are a cause for concern rather than hope. |

He more than "showed something" his rookie year, so I'm not sure Oher fits into this mold. _________________

I won't be sorry when the Ravens finish 8-8. |

For the record Mike Preston was on the Norris and Davis show this morning on 105.7 the fan and he said that Oher has looked really good at LT during OTAs and minicamp. He said that Michael looks a lot more comfortable and Preston has been harder on Oher as much as anybody. It would be nice if some people would be a little more patient and realize that some players tend to develop faster than others. |

OTAs are one thing, playing in a game is another. Oher's problems aren't just mental, it's also technical. In OTAs his lacking technique will not be exposed much without the added physicality of the game. I'm not saying Oher hasn't or can't improve, but I just think its still much too early to give him the benefit of the doubt. Too many players have looked good at this point in the offseason for me to give Oher too much credit.
The one thing he does have still going for him is the notion that he didn't have much experience at LT until late in his collegiate career and minimal LT experience in the pros. His football experience was also somewhat limited before college when compared to the direction many players get. So he's clearly still learning the game, so the possibility of it all just "clicking" is still real, I just wouldn't get my hopes up is all. He's had time to fulfill his potential, so him actually doing it I'd just consider an added bonus at this point. _________________
