Roman analyzes Jenkins' inconsistencies

http://www.csnbayarea.com/football-san-francisco-niners/niners-talk/Roman-analyzes-Jenkins-inconsistencies?blockID=757649&feedID=5936

Quote:
Jenkins demonstrated in Friday's exhibition opener against the Vikings last week was consistent with his practices. He'll make a fantastic catch. Then, he'll let another catchable ball slip through his fingers. "There's a lot swirling through his mind right now," Roman said. "He's trying to do everything perfectly. In that process, there's going to be a drop here, a drop there. I've seen it with a lot of players over the years where they just work through that and they start relaxing and playing as opposed to thinking and playing. What's the solution for Jenkins? "You just have to grind through it and have mental toughness," Roman said. "Lock your jaw and just continue to push through it. Then you start to play faster. Instead of catching four out of six, now it's five out of six. You keep grinding and it's just that process. I think that's what A.J. is going through."

You can't be serious. Aside from the fact that it would be completely unrealistic, why give up on our first round pick before the season even starts for an immature diva who just beat up his own mother?

Jenkins is in the great position of being the 4th or 5th wr on the depth chart as a rookie. He has virtually no pressure to perform and plenty of time to learn from the veterans on the team. I'll save my judgement of him until the end of his second or third season when he'll actually need to perform for the team.

Dez can be a #1 WR for us. He'd get away from his home in Texas, so no distractions. Him and Crabs would be one heck of a duo. A.J. has no chance at being a #1 WR in this league.

And you know this how?

Because he has nerves and drops passes in his rookie training camp?

The bottom line as I see it is this. The perceived value for A.J. is far less than that of Dez. We would likely have to throw in a high draft pick + A.J. to make this even remotely possible... and that ain't happening nor should it.

No, because he's 6 ft tall and will at best be a good #2 receiver. He doesn't have the prototypical #1 attributes. He's a poor man's Santonio Holmes, and we've all seen what type of #1 option he is! Jenkins will be a nice slot receiver but he isn't the guy that will strike fear into the defense, the guy that defensive coordinators game plan against. I just still don't get the pick over Fleener or Hill. I know, too late, he's on the team. I hope he proves me wrong, but at this time, he isn't.

My thinking was that Jerry Jones is getting sick of Dez's off field crap and would want to get a young humble guy like Jenkins that has ability in the slot and will let Miles Austin be the #1 guy.

So, because he's 6' tall, he can't be a #1? If you ask all #1 receivers in the league, will they say their most important attribute is their height?

No way do I want someone who beats up his own mother assoicated with this team in any way. I don't care how good he might be.

He has elite speed and quickness, that doesn't count for anything? Height doesn't mean anything. Just because he's 6' means he could never become a really good WR? I'm not seeing the logic in that.

The guy has a lot of nerves right now, it's clear as day. He makes unbelievable catches then drops the easy ones. You don't think once he gets use to everything he's going to start catching the easy ones? The guy has a lot of potential. Let him learn first before casting him off.

This is becoming an annual thing around here. As soon as the pick is made in the draft people on here just can't wait to rip the guy to shreds because their favorite player wasn't taken, get over yourself. Yea I wasn't expecting Jenkins to be taken but I'm not going to hate on him for it. Let him prove himself first then judge him.

Not just around here. It's on every forum around. Not something to get mad over... just one of those things.

... but not all of us feel this way. My favorite three obviously were not selected by us.. yet I'm giving A.J. all the time and faith to develop that he deserves. Smile

I understand it happens with every teams fan base. I just don't understand why people hold such grudges against players that are drafted. I was very surprised by the Jenkins pick but I looked at it like a luxury pick. Hes going to have time to develope and grow which is only going to really help him. I think he has a chance to be a pretty special player. He has world class help too which will do wonders for him. I'm excited to watch him grow.
