I hear alot of people saying how Harbaugh should know his guys and how we keep passing them over, its curious to me too but I just had a crazy thought. maybe Harbaugh knows these guys weaknesses and when/if we play them we can exploit those weaknesses better then other teams because Harbaugh knows them so well. I got no stock behind this, its just a random thought.. anyway. _________________

By this logic, Doug Baldwin would never have burned us for a 55 yards TD, last season.
The reality is probably more that Baalke has the last word, and he likes some prospects better than the Stanford guys. _________________

while that's true, also in the same boat Pete Carrol kind of does the same thing in a way remember all the hype Taylor Mays got but yet Carrol picked Earl Thomas over him.
so im gonna lean towards Harbaugh being a good coach for whatever he's got and Baalke being the better talent evaluator haha sounds good to me. _________________

The reality is that the NFL is a business and the goal is to win football games. This means that you take the player that you think will give your team the best chance of winning games, regardless of your personal feelings towards them.
People love to give the 49ers former Stanford players in mock drafts because it is an easy explanation with the Harbaugh connection, but that connection means less then people think. The reality is that Coby Fleener is going to be objectively evaluated just like every other prospect. Stanford players will get absolutely no favoritism when being scouted by the 49ers _________________ back in high school i could throw a pigskin a quarter mile |

| Quote: | "Sometimes I don't know if I'm under-evaluating them or over-evaluating them," Harbaugh said. "It's always good with those guys. Here's my opinion and then I need somebody to check that as well.
"You got history, day-to-day history for years. Recruiting history and family history and person history. And you have games. I love these guys. It probably takes some checks and balances with guys you know so well."
General manager Trent Baalke understands the conflict that faces Harbaugh when it comes to projecting the NFL futures of his former players.
"It's hard when you know someone as well as Jim knew some of his Stanford players because of the emotional attachment that you have," Baalke said. "It's hard not to over-value a player. We on the personnel side totally understand that. We go back to the tape. The eye in the sky doesn't lie. When you look at the tape and you re-look at it and you re-look at it, and we've looked at some of these videos three and four times apiece." |
