Akiem Hicks, DT from Regina. Never heard of the guy but apparently he was supposed to go to LSU but never could... so I dunno. _________________

ESPNs loving the pick...He's a huge guy with tremendous lateral ability, seems like a classic Spags pick, take an unknown DL and make him a stud. I like _________________

Seems as though Steelers and Bills had interest in him, was suppose to go to LSU. Some reports say he relys on size too much. But is compared to Kenrick Ellis from the jets
here is his scouting report
2012 NFL Combine Results
40-Yard Dash 5.23
Bench press 26
Vertical jump 31.5
Broad jump 9'0
Three-cone drill 7.75
20-yard shuttle 4.86 |

The guy has freakishly long arms, almost 36 inches long and I guess he was actually a higher rated recruit than Michael Brockers...This could turn into a pretty great pick. Could we finally have a good defensive lineman?!!?! _________________

Not too excited about the pick, but I also don't really disagree.
Just a little anticlimactic. _________________

I thought we were going to go with Josh Chapman, or the NT from Washington. I like the pick though. I know someone had us taking him in the Saints forum had us taking him in a mock a couple months ago. I have faith in our front office and I think Spags will have fun with this guy. _________________

...I'm just glad we went with a BOOM or BUST pick on the D-Line. I'm tired of Safe defensive picks like Cam Jordan. We need Dynamic Linemen!

Listening to Vitt and Spags about the pick, they were absolutely thrilled.
Vitt said it was a slam dunk and they spent several hours looking at film on Hicks.
Interesting quote was Hicks was on top of their board. If he wasn't there, they would most likely have traded down.
Les Miles also said if Hicks played at LSU, he might've been a top-10 pick this year.
Measurables wise, he is comparable to Brockers (he beats Brockers in most areas except one or two I think).
Weather he has Brockers' ability remains to be seen.
Both Mayock and Lombardi like the pick.
I gotta say, I had him later so we'll see. _________________
