He sucks at being a receiver which what we invested in him to be. He's a mediocre punt returner that cost the Texans a chance to go to the AFC Title game.

He's just a pitiful route runner and doesn't have hands to make more than an average catch.

But he can really turn on the jets and make moves in the open field.

You also get a superb PR. He is not even close to being medoicre. If having around the 10th best average, 5th most 20+ yard returns with 7, and tied for first for most 40+yards returns with 5, then yeah he's a pretty damn mediocre Punt returner...

Also he has done this with skeptical blocking these past 2 years

Bingo! He was walking on thin ice with all Texans fans before that muff, and has since become the official goat for that loss.

Always thought he was mediocre at best. He got those stats/yards just off his burst/speed. Thats all he has going for him imo.

Most Texans fans are very bitter about the guy costing us the playoff game against the Ravens last year with a muffled punt return.

Overall, he's an inconsistent deep threat that will give you a lot of effort. Not the best route runner and will have some drops but if he catches the ball he can run away from the defense. He's also become a good run blocker to fit our system.

Interesting trade rumor from the Houston Chronicle:
Quote:
One report said the Texans were trying to trade Jones to Cleveland for quarterback Colt McCoy. A deal like that would make sense. The Browns need more offensive weapons for first-round pick Brandon Weeden. They selected running back Trent Richardson in the first round, and now they need to bolster their receivers.

Texans are likely looking for another backup QB so McCoy makes some sense. Not sure what Browns fan would think.

He's so frustrating. He has the size and speed needed to be a superstar all-pro receiver. He's had plenty of time to learn the playbook inside and out. He's played for the same coach in the same system since he was drafted. He has an above-average QB that he's had four years to get comfortable with. Prior to this offseason, Houston's had an O line that's allowed him plenty of time to execute downfield routes and get open. As long as Johnson's been healthy, he's never even imagined being double-covered. He's had years playing with a top 3 wideout who is solid in his technique. Shouldn't he have learned some things from him?

I know there are tens of thousands of guys with talent who have never panned out, but things have been so damned perfect for Jones and every time I've watched a Houston game, he always seems to be a fourth option behind Johnson, Walter, and the safety valve combo of Daniels/Dreesen/Foster. It's just incredible to me. Well, not the being behind Johnson part. If you're not Megatron or Fitzgerald, you're behind Andre...but the other guys down there are not exactly best-in-the-league talents.

I'd be super happy if the Bears signed him after he gets cut, but that has nothing to do with expecting him to produce. That's just the result of our WR depth not being great and wanting an insurance policy against the possibility of Alshon Jeffery not contributing immediately. Jones would probably be our fourth option/special teamer, too. Unfortunately, he makes $7 million over two years. That's just not tradeable.

That being said, Posey is horrible. He's not going to beat Jones out.

Sorry to rant, but Jacoby Jones really rustles my jimmies.

^^ Posey is not terrible. He's a great talent who would have had more stock if it wasn't for the Ohio State scandal. He's a little like Jones in the fact that he'll have mental lapses and drops some easy balls, but Posey is a great receiver who is undoubtedly better as an all around receiver than Jones.

Jacoby Jones is the bane of TEXANS NATION's existence. There are times in which Jones will make a HUGE play, just a big catch and run, or a big PR for a TD, or something like that. You see his speed at the forefront, you see some acrobatic catches, you see some dangerous quickness in his routes that spring him wide open...there are just moments where he drops your jaw with some of the things he can do...

...however, most of those moments are hidden behind some boneheaded plays and moments where he just vanishes into thin air. Save for the Baltimore gaffe of 2011, Jones had done some good things in regards to not screwing things up, however...he replaced that by long spurts where you just didn't see the guy. He'd have a game where he'd make a 70+ yard TD catch, then you wouldn't see him for 2-3 weeks at a time. Then, out of nowhere, a 50 yard TD bomb...then, gone for a month or so.

He's in need of a change of scenery, because he will always be hated in Houston, and he's the type of guy who lets the yells and screams get to him. For the longest, he was to be Robin to Andre Johnson's Batman, and he never became that player. Houston is fed up with it and looking elsewhere...which is what he needs, because the SKILL to be a reliable player is there.

Sounds like a winning Sells pitch. It will only cost the Texans a 5th for us to take him off their hands... Laughing

Garbage for garbage - you give us Mike Jenkins and a 6th, we'll give you Jacoby Jones and a 5th. Wink

Jenkins isnt garbage though. He is a quality starter in this league. He is just fragile.
