With the 13th overall selection in the 2012 NFL Draft the Arizona Cardinals select;

Michael Floyd [WR] Notre Dame

With the selection of Michael Floyd the Arizona Cardinals add another Minnesota High School product to their receiving coprs, the first of course being prennial All-Pro Larry Fitzgerald.

Floyd stepped onto the field as a freshman at Notre Dame and had an immediate impact recording 7 TD's on 48 catches. He exploded as a Sophomore with 44 catches and 9 TD's in only seven games missing some time due to injuries.

He has had a few issues with Alcohol, but seems to be past that and has matured greatly over the past year. He had his most productive collegiate season as a Junior with over 1000 yards and 12 TD's to his name all while dealing with a very shaky Quarterback situation. As a senior he caught 100 passes for 1147 yards and 9 TD's.

At the combine Floyd showed off his athleticism as he posted a 4.47 in the forty yard dash at 36.5" vertical leap and a broad jump of over 10 feet.

Floyd is a bull of a receiver and is capable of running the complete route tree. Very tough to bring down in the tackle he is a great YAC receiver, but his height, leaping ability and ability to reach away from his frame and snatch the ball make him a devastating vertical receiver too. With very few flaws in game he presents tremendous value for the Cardinals at 13 overall, and will allow Doucet and Roberts to operate out of the slot where they are more comfortable and force coverages to pay less attention to Larry Fitzgerald.

Welcome to the Desert the newest member of the Birdgang - Michael Floyd.

one of the more underated aspects of this pick is what it allows us to do with Roberts and Doucet. two guys who i think will have a lot more production in the roles where they belong...inside.

great write up Khodder, as usual

Fitz and Floyd outside, Roberts in the slot. Nice looking trio.

Floyd will stay with Fitz and be stuck to his hip like a puppy. Can't wait.

LET'S GO CARDINALS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So what number you guy think he will take. I think he a good WR but we will see if he can help the QB not be sacked so much.

I harped and harped and harped on it last year and I'll repeat it here: It's hard for a quarterback to throw the football when Larry's got bracket coverage and your other guys aren't open.

Floyd will undoubtably help with that. Still need better protections, still need OL help but Floyd's a great start for us offensively.

According to ProFootball Focus, Cardinals receivers not named Larry caught just 57% of their pass attempts with 15 drops.

Floyd wasn't just talent, he was a need.

Whiz and Graves presser right now. On Floyd's character:

"We got the sense he really matured"

On Larry's imput:

"Larry's not as involved in the process as some people think"

Graves on the why they selected Michael Floyd:

"He was too good to pass up"

Floyd on getting the call from Arizona:

"I saw that 602 area code coming and wanted to jump for joy"

I wonder if Floyd (Being a Minnesota kid) has ever been to one of Fitz's receiver camps in the offseason.

okay, now that the first round is over...its time to start disecting this pick.

the only real concern i have with Floyd is durability...his actual game is almost flawless...but durability is a big scare.

his off field concerns are not anything to worry about, he seems like a bright kid who i dont think will give us any trouble. and he seems happy to houst up that cardinal jersey, which makes me happy.

what number will he wear? my prediction...13

Yeah he has trained with Fitzgerald.

Durability is a concern but he only has a mild injury history

I like him as a person. He seems like a quiet, respectable, and more mature guy

I love this pick. If Levi plays like he did in the 2nd half of last season and we get a RT in round 3/4 LOOKOUT!
