Jordan Bernstine was announced as a CB. The Hawkeye's website called him a DB, and I'll guess that he will be a FS/gunner with the Redskins. He's very active on Special Teams and that's what we need.

Yep.

Looks like a thumper. Both hits, while hard, were clean.

When do the UDFAs start getting called. Soon as the draft ends?

Sweetness. One of these two DB picks will make the 53, I doubt both.

Assured
D.Hall
Wilson
C.Griffin

Competing
Kevin Barnes (I could see him getting edged out)
Brandyn Thompson
Richard Crawford

Is it anticipated that Bernstine will be a safety? If so, hopefully he does well enough to encourage the staff to move on from Merriweather.

Start getting called? They already are getting calls. They cannot sign until after the draft.

The 49ers getting Cam Johnson at 237 is an absolute joke. GREAT pick.

Was worried that Virginia's 30 year trend of having a draftee was about to end (last time was 1983). For comparison, Virginia Tech's last draft free year was 1993.

I still can't believe Minnifield is available...

I think Bernstine will be a FS. Don't they see Merriweather as a SS?

If they don't, they might want to watch a bit more of this elusive "film" thing. But I do trust that they have no illusions of his being able to handle the FS position.

Then again, I see him starting the year more as a "former Redskin" than as a "SS," so maybe I'm not on the right track here.

I think if Dennard wasn't still there, the Patriots would have picked him up. But I guess teams worry that he won't recover from the offseason surgery ... which makes no sense at this juncture. Spend a late seventh, PUP him, and then see what you have later this year or early next year. If he isn't healthy, cut him. If he doesn't toe the line, cut him. It's a low risk, high reward scenario.

Have to think he's worth more than the 21st best TE (as graded by NFL.com), which the Browns just took.

I assume both are/will be correct. If Bernstine can make the team, Gomes and Doughty can rotate at SS. Probably hoping for too much but if he doesn't become M.Kelly 2.0, it might be plausible. Alas, I think Merriweather will be on the opening roster barring great play from the rest of the unit, Bernstine included.

It looks like with DBs, they did the ole "throw a bunch against the wall and see what sticks" type of thing. I'm sure they have a plan.

I was really surprised that these people weren't drafted:

37. Chris Polk, RB, Washington
101. James Brown, OG, Troy
119. Michael Brewster, OC, Ohio State
129. DeAngelo Peterson, TE, LSU
136. Jeff Fuller, WR, Texas A&M
139. Chase Minnifield, CB, Virginia
141. Leonard Johnson, CB, Iowa State
161. Dwight Jones, WR, North Carolina

At one time Mayock had Leonard Johnson as his #5 CB overall.
Many sites had Dwight Jones as a second round pick a couple of months ago.
