I don't know, he's my dark horse candidate to make the roster based on his versatility. Someone's probably already mentioned this but this pick looks alot like Shanahan picking Mike Anderson in the 6th. He's the perfect thunder to Helu's lightning |
They need a goal line/short yardage back to get a tough yard or two. Great pick if it works out. |
exactly, he's got such a strong lower body I can see him being really productive there for us. gonna go out on a limb, 6 rushing 2 rec tds this year |

| Quote: | “‘He said, ‘This is Mike Shanahan, welcome to the Redskins,’” said Morris, who grew up a Redskins fan. “I was like, wow! It kind of floored me but I was excited, I told him thank you, thank you and ended up talking to [running backs] coach [Bobby] Turner.”
“He was a big I-formation guy,” Morris said of Schnellenberger, who has been around so long he was the head coach of the Colts the year after they traded away Johnny Unitas. “I’ve been in the I formation, it helped me with my blocking skills, just running between the tackles . . . I definitely helped me transition over.”
“It just goes to show, he saw something in me that others didn’t,” he said. “He was taking a chance on me and I definitely didn’t want to disappoint him.” |
Very Cool. Sounds like the guy is very excited and I'm glad he's a fan of the redskins. Seems like the past few years, we've been drafting a hand full of Dallas fans.
I love the chips on the shoulder attitudes we have from all of our draft picks. They all seem like good character guys, hard workers and they were leaders on their college teams. _________________

Analysis --Slow, doesn't have NFL speed. HA!!!
From what I can find --he ran a 4.65 40,,same as Royster.
AND,,from what I can find --Emmitt Smith ran a sizzlin'.. 4.8 at his combine -- He did oK didn't he . This guy looks tough and is determined .. Shanny had him at the Senior Bowl--another late round RB steal .. |

However, the trick will be to get on the field. There's only so many carries and between Hightower, Helu, Royster, and Morris, it might hard to show that he could be the next big Shanny back.
Of course, all it will take is one shot. |

Alfred Morris making a big impression on coaches so far:
| Quote: | So says NFL insider and draft analyst Russ Lande, who listed the Redskins rookie runner among his late-round sleepers from the 2012 class. Here is what Lande said in his Sporting News article about the sixth-rounder:
"Morris, who played at Florida Atlantic, stood out at the Redskins’ OTAs. He impressed with his versatility at tailback and fullback, and also with his ability to catch the ball. Considering Mike Shanahan’s history of success with running backs drafted late, we expect Morris to make a significant contribution his rookie season." |
Morris brings versatility, with the injury to Hightower he has shown that. They say he is seeing some snaps at FB. I think he's a practice squad player who may make the 53 man at the end of the year if there is room. Next year though, maybe he makes it on the 53 man roster.

| Quote: | | 4. I was asked on Twitter yesterday for my pick for a surprise player to make the 53-man roster. My response was running back Alfred Morris. Although it’s usually not a huge surprise when a sixth-round draft pick makes the squad it’s far from a given, especially since the Redskins have three backs who are at least semi established in Roy Helu, Tim Hightower, and Evan Royster. With Mike Sellers gone, Darryl Young is the only fullback on the roster. The last two years the fullback has played only about a third of the snaps, making it hard to justify keeping a second fullback on the roster. If Morris can play fullback and contribute on special teams he will have a good shot at making the 53. | for me, I would rather keep Logan Paulsen as our 4th TE than Morris. We can still have Cooley on the roster who can play FB/hb at times, just don't give him any damn handoffs kyle!! And certainly not two plays in a row vs the cowboys in Dallas... Thanks!

Ill take Morris over Paulsen. I dont think Paulsen would catch on anywhere else which means we could sign him if necessary. _________________

Anything could happen,Morris has a great preseason then one,of our rivals need a healthy third guy.... _________________

We need to do what we did with Royster last year and not play him much in preseason. The other rivals have their own young players they've drafted. Anyways... Who knows? I'm sure the best Players will make the team, it will be a tough decision for those last few spots. _________________

That's right, and Paulsen could stay busy on Our practice squad getting reps.
I think I read somewhere that they used 6 different backs over the season last year and something crazy like 18 different people on Offense had their hands on the ball _________________

He has no practice squad eligibility. Players like the rookies or who guys whomhaven't ever played in a game or many games like Markus White, all the rookies, Aldrick Robinson, they can go on the practice squad.
You are right about the running backs, I read that also. We've had a crazy amount of backs and offensive players over the first two seasons of the shanAllen regime, there will always be turnover but hopefully the major turnover of like 20 new players every year is over. _________________
