Small school secondary, we have seen this in past drafts with Wiz and company. Adreses a need for us and seems like a great sleeper. First i want to show this video of him, it reminds me of a youtube highlight from Adrian Wilson
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=08RJgDJS8Dg
Justin Bethel FS from Presbyterian. 4 year starter, loves to tackle and loves to play. Blocked 10 kicks in college
6'0 4.53 40
Now on to Pros and Cons
PROS:
Very good size. Toils in the weight room and it shows — has a lean, well-proportioned, cut-up physique. Explosive athletic ability — broad-jumped 10 feet 11 inches and posted a 391⁄2-inch vertical leap at the Combine. Covers ground with a smooth, gliding stride. Quick to support the run. Willing, productive tackler. Impact special-teams player and has experience as a “gunner” and jammer. Four-year starter. Outstanding character. Motivated, hardworking and intelligent.
Cons
Has tweener traits — lacks ideal speed and suddenness for the cornerback position and bulk and anticipation for the safety spot. Still developing instincts. Unrefined technique. Has to iron out his pedal. Average hip flex and transitional quickness. Inconsistent ball reactions (average production on the ball). Faced marginal competition.
Summery
A great prospect that could provide us much needed depth. Also first time his school had a prospect invited to the combine. Also loves to bake!

nice write up man.
I also like the pick, not because i know much about him. but because i like the idea of the small school trend living on.
we have gotten great production from some of these small school guys. and Bethel seems to have the right tools to keep that trend alive. _________________

Had him going to the Cards in my very first mock draft, 6 months ago. I'm that good.

LOL, nice. These things need "Do not try this at home" warnings.
Whiz and his small school picks. I told you guys, it never fails, Whiz loves small school prospects. _________________

| I completely forgot we signed veteran safety James Sanders. That could force Bethel to the PS or lead to a cut of Sanders. I'm not sure we'll go with 5 safeties. |

Ya, that will be tough. I guess we could carry one of them as a pure STer ala Sean Morey but that makes 4 roster spots on pure STers. Not a great use of your 53 man.
Have to see how it all shakes out but I really like Bethel. There's a ton of upside there. _________________

Bethel on his special teams play:
They say I’m one of the best special teams players out there,” Bethel said. “I always just play as hard as I possibly can.” _________________

Whiz on Justin Bethel:
"In our defense, it's important that you have versatility and to be able to play safety and be able to play corner. We feel very strongly about having a lot of those kind of guys because of our multiple blitz packages and what we do in those fronts. It's a great opportunity for him to come in and compete.
"We spent a lot of time with him at the combine, very impressive young man. Very clean athletically. You always have to keep in mind what they did on tape and when you saw (him play against) some of the higher-level competition, you like that." _________________

You may be good but I had him in my mock and also going to the Cards in the 6th round. I am sure it won't count on a technicality though cause I have him listed as the second pick in the 6th. |

This pick reminds me a lot of what Matt Ware. He can play corner and safety as well as contribute on special teams. Whisenhunt loves versatility and I'm hoping that this kid is able to stay on the roster and not get sent down to practice squad. _________________
