Tony Bergstrom: D
Not a fan of the pick I'm afraid, I know he has been tagged 'the best ZBS guard in the draft' but I just see an old, limited back-up. Hope I am wrong, and was a very good college player, just don't see him translate well to the pro's.

Miles Burris: A
Beast of a pick, kid is a poor man's Clay Matthews. Sensational motor, good speed off the edge and surprising power. Really good fundamental tackler as well, so offers positional versatility.

Jack Crawford: A+
My favourite pick in the draft for a number of reasons. Has the attributes to be a beast in the NFL, continues to improve year on year and is English Razz. His twitter handle is also Sack_Religious which is funny. Crawford also had one of the best explosive power (a measurement created by Packer poster Waldo which looked at combine scores and has proven remarkably accurate over the last few years) ratings in the draft.

Juron Criner: B+
Really like this kid, we have drafted WRs really well later on over the past 3-4 years and I am hopeful this could be another one. Separates well on tape rendering his 40 time irrelevant and has really good hands. Possession guy to compliment our corp.

Christo Bilukidi: C
Don't know much about this kid, but tweener size and bad competition worry me. Also think there was better talent available at the pick.

Nathan Stupar: B
A concern with our LBers IMO is how big and poor isolated in space they are. Stupar could be somewhat of an antidote to this as he was primarily a coverage nickel LBer, who was a good leader and well liked at PSU. Solid pick.

Overall draft grade: B+

Not sure about Crawford. He doesn't look like much of a pass rusher. I guess he still needs a lot of coaching.

I agree with the rest though. And really like Burris.

not just being ahomer but you are not giving bergstrom near enough credit. utah had a very good rushing year and had our qb not been injured he would have helped get them in the rose bowl. i understand you not loving the pick but this guy is much better than you give him credit for.

Burris also scores even higher on second look. Really promising.

19th row along and go down to found our draft.

This one is also interesting, puts Burris as a very safe 'low risk' bust pick.

Obviously the formula isn't perfect but its useful.

Bad competition?

Looking at their schedule they played:

Tennessee (SEC)
Maine (ranked #8 in 1AA top 25)
UT San Antonio (going D1 in a year or so)
New Hampshire (ranked #11 in 1AA top 25)
James Madison (ranked #15 in 1AA top 25)
Villinova (in 1AA National Championship in 2010)

And D1AA is where a ton of players in the NFL come from. In fact it is a higher level of football than D2 where we got Veldheer. So you may wanna re-check that and get back to us because their schedule was not easy. Don't forget that Appalachian State beat Michigan only a few years ago. And these teams routinely beat their D1 counterparts. So bad competition is not really valid in this case.

And the kid is bigger than our own Bryant and Houston so he is a little bigger than a tweener. The team thought enough of him to have a personal workout with him and took him. Just because we were unaware of him doesn't mean the team didn't do their homework.

Take a look at "beast mode" for yourself.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=STiBwfkomOY

The guy was playing in the two point over the nose in some plays. He rushed from DT, DE, and OLB too at 290 to 310 lbs. I'm not saying this guy is the best thing smoking. But looking at what he can do should buy him more than being written off from his level of competition.

Level of competition when you consider the amount of SEC players drafted this year (43 I think) and the talent levels they would have faced. I'm not writing him off, just saying I know nothing about him other than him being a really good athlete.

But that level of competition beats a lot of BCS level teams. We see it all the time. Another D3 kid was drafted in the 5th round. We just signed a Beloit (D3) kid as a UDFA. And look at Veldheer at an even lower level. If you can play, the NFL will find you. Plus, like Univ Texas San Antonio, georgia State has division one dreams in the next few years.

That's all I'm saying.

Yeah I know that there small school guys who become All-Pro's but I think its still a fair statement to say dominating the SEC is more impressive than dominating whilst at Georgia State.

Tell that to Michael Strahan. Wink

But the good thing is that we have all offseason to see for ourselves.
