At the very least, Burris' highlight reel is really impressive. Not sure what kind of competition he was playing against or what not, b/c in his highlights he does seem to go virtually unblocked quite a few times. With that being said, he has some qualities i really like.
He moves downhill and covers ground in a hurry, it seems like 90% of his tackles come behind the LOS or within 3-4 yards of it.
He has a high motor and seems to have a knack for making tackles in traffic and shedding blockers. When he doesn't get blocked he delivers HARD hits.
He could be an every down kinda OLB. He plays the run and the pass equally effectively and rarely gives up the edge.
Looks like he could be an impact player defensively. As unimpressed as i am with a lot of RM's personell moves this off-season, it seems like he knew what he was doing with this pick, as Burris seems to have a pretty high ceiling; a guy that could not only be a solid starter but actually an all-pro and difference maker on the D.
From what i've seen of this guy, imo we might have just gotten a steal. I've been on the Sean Spence bandwagon for a while now, and Burris does a lot of the same things that got me on that bandwagon. Obviously this is a really optimistic comparison, but i see a Terrell Suggs type player in Burris. Really well rounded, clutch and just makes plays. Basically sets up camp in the backfield and can take over a game/put the D on his back.
As for our current LB's, i don't think it's unreasonable to expect to see him start at some point this season. As RM said, we didn't have a ton of draft picks or spending money, the guys we were going for were guys that could start relatively quickly. As well, TC can definitely change things with respect to our LB core, IMO Rolando is the only guy that is going to be almost guaranteed a starting job, every other spot is up for grabs in some capacity. I do think Shaughnessy could be a very good OLB as well; high motor, hard worker, good against Run and pass-rush. But also i could see Curry possibly making a move to ILB in a 3-4 (he played mainly 4-3 in college if i remember correctly and wasn't really drafted based on his pass rushing abilities). And Wheeler is anything but guaranteed a starting job, If Burris does well in TC it might not even take that long before he moves ahead of him on the depth chart.
Overall, really like this player and really like the pick. Gotta call an ace an ace and a spade a spade, RM made a really good pick here, imo. |

Why does everyone assume were going 3-4 we have heard nothing to indicate that. Allen has coached 4-3 defenses and while GB is a 3-4 now for much of Mckenzies time there they played a 4 man front. I think Burris is going to be used as a poor mans Von Miller. Imo were going to show multiple fronts, but were still a 4-3 team until were told otherwise. _________________

Rigth now we are a lot better suited for the 4-3...this will be our base IMO and we will mix it up... _________________ WIN LOSE OR TIE...RAIDER FAN 'TIL I DIE!!

Plus the FAs they signed on defense are 4-3 players |

I think We are overrating our LB core. There isnt one player that I look at and go, "yeah hes a baller" each of our Lbs have glaring holes in their game. Burris could very easily make the starting line up from day one.
Also i think RoMac and Burris are the only 2 3-4 lbs. |

Burris played in a 3-3-5 defense at SDSU. _________________

True, just seems like he's very versatile and would fit just about everywhere, he said he did just about everything in college. _________________

I misled you with how i typed it.
I believe that RoMac, having experience in the three four, would be adequate in the 3-4.
I believe that Burris' explosion would translate well to a 3-4 outside linebacker. |

I thought Curry played a hybrid defense in Wake Forest. Might be wrong but I thought he played LOLB. _________________

I like his motor & pursuit. He plays with passion & emotion too. Similar to Aaron Curry. Not sure what his ceiling is, but I think he can be on the team for a while. Backup at worse.
I don't see him starting this year with Curry-McClain-Wheeler, but who knows.
He has an interview on http://www.957thegame.com/ for those who are interested. _________________

I'm currently watching Boise State VS. San Diego State...
He is going against Nate Potter...
I hope this is not one of his better games
Potter is keeping him in check... _________________ WIN LOSE OR TIE...RAIDER FAN 'TIL I DIE!!
