Their number one concern was helping Gabbert, both in the offensive line (mainly right tackle but some youth on the interior for depth would have been nice, too), and at receiver. They did nothing for their line. But as far as receiver, I give them an A. They did overpay Laurent Robison, but at worst he should still be a productive 3 or 4 if he doesn't start. Lee Evans is a low risk possibly high ceiling type signing. He was drafted by their current coach and had his best years with him. But trading up for the number one receiver in the draft is what set it apart. Blackmon has a ridiculous range for Gabbert to throw too, and should make for easy completions (like Fitz).
Pass rush was also a high need. I liked the Andre Branch pick, and resigning of Mincey. So I give it a B. I don't expect Freeney/Mathis type results but I see them being capable. The Jags still need help there, but they did well for now.
Resigning Mathis and Lowery, and signing Ross should make their secondaries one of the better ones in the league, along with Landry.
The coaching change was necessary, and I like it. Not a big name, but he's done well with offenses before and the Jags desperately need it.
So overall I grade it a B+. Three things keep it down....no o-line help, overpaid Laurent Robison, and drafted a punter in the third. But they definitely made their team better in a lot of ways. |

Yup. Age is an issue at center and LG. Meester isn't getting younger, but Rackley should improve from a solid rookie season - I don't expect him to be a weakness anymore. And if Eben stays healthy, there is no weakness on the line other than Meester, if his age were to creep up on him in a hurry. _________________
